Aircraft Explanation
The "Vanquish Races" are done by Variable Fighters (VF), and are known as "the galaxy's extremest air races". Although the Vanquish Race are a contest aimed at the goals of various courses, just like the air races that once took place on Earth, they feature special areas where it is necessary to manifest the maximum special characteristics of the VFs, such as a "GERWALK Area", where the VFs are limited to GERWALK Form along the route; and "Flag Area", where the VFs are permitted to fight with armaments that have been loaded with dummy rounds. The Vanquish Races, where Shinsei Industry and other works teams, and individually participating privateers invest VFs that they each remodel and fight with the weapons of engineering and capability, are considered to have faced their first peak of their boom in 2058. The races at the time adopted a form where racers that were selected through the "Fleet Cups" - limited to 10 matches per year held in each fleet - participate in the "Celestial Cup"; and it's victor is the "King Of Vanquish". In this text, we're introducing representative aircraft that participated in the Vanquish Races in the 2058 race year.

Related Matter: Fasces
Fasces is an anti New Unified Government organization by an Earth supremacist, which acted at the time the Vanquish Races were held in the 2058 race year. In the 2058 Fleet Cup, an incident occurred where the Galaxy Fleet Resort Ship Revna, the place where the Fleet Race was being held, was captured by Fasces. In this incident, some of the Vanquish Racers that were fated to be connected with Fasces participated with S.M.S. and others as the "Heroic Air Squadron", in the mission to gain total control over the Fasces position.

Right: Naresuwan
The Supreme Commander of Fasces is an Earth supremacist who adores the Earth and its culture. He has concluded that the current system of self-governing Emigrant Fleet States is corrupt, and he conducts terrorist activities.

VF-19ACTIVE Nothung
An aircraft based on the VF-19EF that S.M.S. received and operated on consignment from L.A.I. as an experimental aircraft for data collection. It seems that it was invested in the Vanquish races for a part of the data collection. The variable winglet that the wingtips are equipped with use the Auto-Transforming OTM Materials that the YF-21 was equipped with, and the wing cross-section and wing type could change according to the situation. It has a complex control system, and the abilities of a skilled pilot were indispensable in managing the aircraft without the support of a BDI System or Implant Technology.

Right: It is equipped with a Support AI (nicknamed: Brunhild) for airframe control. In addition, the pilot Chelsea later boarded the YF-25 Prophecy in its test run.

Up: The Battroid form. It's said that the EX-Gear System equipped Nothung displayed flesh-and-blood human-like behaviour due to the greatness of pilot Chelsea's physical abilities.

SV-52γ Oryol
A custom aircraft which is a restored VF from the time of the Unification War. Even though the original SV-52 is an aircraft produced as a thermonuclear reaction turbine engine equipped model of the SV-51 -one of the earliest VFs-, the SV-52 materials in this aircraft might only be a few. Instead, the aircraft's external appearance resembles that of the SV-51γ. Although the cockpit and frame use the original ones to the utmost, characteristically tuned engines that were used in the VF-17D were placed in it, and it's said to have exhibited aircraft performance that compared favourably to the VF-171.

Right: The transparent parts in the center of the body are the top of the head when in Battroid form. The fixed armaments in the head were removed as remodelling for the races, and sensors were installed there.

VF-1X++ Double Plus
A developed and improved model of the VF-1X-Plus, which Shinsei Industry produced in small numbers in 2047. Materials that use OTM, which were obtained after the First Interstellar War, are used in it, and they attempted to drastically lighten it and improve its strength. In addition, the engines are exchanged for experimental ones for the new models of Unmanned Aircraft, and the VF-1X++ possesses the tremendous propulsive power of an average AVF.

Left: The underside of the fuselage and wing type play a leading role in a revision of its aerodynamic performance, and with such things as increasing the posture control verniers, it has became an aircraft that over-specializes in manoeuvrability.

Up: Pilot: Hakuna Aoba

VF-0 Kai Zeak
The aircraft that Hakuna boarded when he lost the VF-1X++. Although the remains of a VF-0A are used as the base of the aircraft, parts from the at-the-time state-of-the-art VF-25 are put into about 70% of the entire fuselage. In addition, by installing Stage II FF-3001A engines, which produced output equal to that of the VF-25, the VF-0 Kai demonstrated performance that equalled the YF-27-5.

Up: Known as "the VF-25 covered in the skin of a VF-0". As the airframe of the VF-0 is about the same size as the VF-25, it's said that VF-25 parts were easily inserted into it.

YF-27-5 Shaher ♀ (Female)
One of the prototypes of the new model VF-27, that the Macross Galaxy Fleet Variable Fighter Development Arsenal "Guld Works" developed. The wing shape is close to that of the YF-24. As a variant directly descended from the VF-22, in addition to a control system that evolved from the BDI System, it uses directly brain control by Implant Technology.

Down: In order to collect data, it "intruded" into the "Celestial Cup", and challenged the Vanquish racers to hand-to-hand combat.

Up: An exclusive Beam Gun Pod is set not under the torso, but on the underside of the right main wing. A Reactor Pod for the Gun Pod is suspended under the left wing.

Related Matter: People Concerned With The Vanquish Races
Each participating team in the Vanquish Races is supported by sponsors, who bring the operating funds; and mechanics, who maintain the VFs. Also, the Galaxy Network monopolizes the televising rights of the Vanquish Races, and the earnings that are obtained from there are divided between the registered racers, and are set aside as the teams' operating funds. It's possible to say that every one of the sponsors, mechanics, and filming staff are important participants in the races.

Sponsors Left: President Yein Rau of the family restaurant chain "Skylab". She zeros in on Chelsea Scarlett and extensively sponsored her.

Maintenance Engineers
Above are the two mechanics of the private maintenance company "Robins Family". They performed maintenance on Chelsea's and Hakuna's aircraft.
