Commentary
The episode spotlights the reason why Basara sings songs in places with quarrels. In the middle of the episode is the form of Basara, who is trying to stop the quarrelling youths, who had a falling out with each other, by getting them to listen to his song. Notwithstanding the somewhat eccentricity of that appearance, it directly shows his sincere desire that all quarrels can be eliminated with the power of song.
However, in the end Basara doesn't achieve his goal of impressing his idea on the youths even here, and he punches the youths while protecting Mylene. Basara shouting out at this moment, "you can't twist people's arms with power, they must listen to songs and be moved to action!" is one of the best scenes in the start of the series.
The youths that were hit by Basara saw his form flying about the dangerous battlefield while singing. Although they didn't understand his real intention, they were moved by his zeal. This episode was skillfully composed with it's important points incorporating the conflicts in human relations, such as the confrontations of Max and Miria, and Gigiru and Gepurunicchi, the later of which executed an operation where Gigiru was used as a distraction; all of which emphasized the applause that Basara receives at the end of the episode. On the other hand, due to Gepurunicchi, the operation to infiltrate City 7 succeeds, and the story enters a new phase.

Topics: Band Boom
The musical world [in Japan] was in the middle of a great boom at the time of "Macross 7"'s telecast, which was later referred to as "the Second Band Boom". At the time, bands classified into various lineages appeared one after another, such as the fashionable Shibuya-kei, the aggressive appearing Punk-kei, and the gaudy makeup wearing Visual-kei. Some of their wildly enthusiastic fans bore naked hostility toward fans of the other musical lineages that had different musical characters. The actions of the rock fans that appear in this episode are a parody of the antagonism between such fans in the real world.

Topics: My Soul For You
"My Soul For You", which Fire Bomber introduced in a concert, is the finished version of the song that Basara was making in the 2nd episode. It starts with the lyrics "If you become the wind I want to become the endless sky", and something like a love song is concealed in the song. According to Director Amino Tetsurou, where episode 1's Storming Love Hurt incurs the feeling of "recklessly having gone into the world", in the continuing episodes, I used the internally oriented song "My Soul For You".
