Commentary
This is the first time that Rei is the main character in an episode. At the same time, the episode describes his past relationship with Akiko. When he defends her, Rei doesn't rely on weapons, and uses his body as a shield. That scene shows the viewer the painful insides of Rei, who still blames himself as the underlying cause of the death of Stephen, a former comrade in arms. Also, in the latter half of the episode, Rei forces his post-operation body out of the sickbed and heads toward collecting the VF-19 Kai, as Basara needs the aircraft.
While Rei's honesty stands out even more in his appearance of once again awkwardly serving his partner, Basara, who's talents have charmed Rei, the episode eloquently tells the viewer that Basara's size is the dream of the current Rei. Basara, who, despite being thankful, is angry to be amazed by those feelings in Rei, the admiration of Mylene, and Akiko, who remembers the feelings of being held in high esteem by Rei as a kind of envy, individually depict the significance and profoundness of Rei. In addition, this episode establishes the unforeseen truth that Rei, Stephan and Kinryu were formerly enrolled in the same Pink Pecker force, and they battled remnants of the Zentraadi. Along with Operation M, which is connected to the formation of Sound Force, the sense that the appearance of the world has been extended by this episode is fascinating.

When intercepting the vampire, the MP (Military Police) was shown playing a large role with the rifle in one hand. Besides the sombre visuals of that moustache, his instantaneous judgement in the pandemonium also catches the light, such as promptly throwing his gun across to Rei, who has cornered the enemy. Although his appearance is limited to one conversation, he is a great supporting character that leaves a deep impression on the viewer.
Topics: The Fighter Craft That The Pink Pecker Force Piloted
The Valkyrie that Ray and the others in the Pink Pecker Force piloted was the VF-11B Thunderbolt. It's assumed that the genuine deployment of this Valkyrie model advanced in 2030, and a large number were deployed as the main fighter. It seems that customized, performance-improved models of the VF-11B were deployed in the Pink Pecker Squadron, which was an elite unit.*
* Translator's note: revised with an errata sticker. Originally was: "The Valkyrie that Ray and the others in the Pink Pecker Force piloted was the VF-11C Thunderbolt. As the genuine deployment of this Valkyrie model proceeded around 2040, one could say that the Pink Pecker Force had a considerably early initial deployment of it at the time in 2030. It is likely that one considers the possibility that the elite unit Pink Pecker dared themselves to be deployed in the early prototypes of the VF-11C."
