Commentary
This episode is one that progresses with ample tension from the strategies over the time limit until City 7 refolds, mixed into the expectations of the various camps involved, including Basara and others of Fire Bomber, Miria of the City Office, Gamlin and others of the Unified Forces, and Gigiru in the Varohta Forces.
There are a lot of highlights, such as the point where the audience is told the technical level of fold technology in 2045, and the activities of Miria, who pilots a Valkyrie that closely resembles the one that she had during the First Interstellar War. Above all else, when the episode shows Gamlin applying for permission to use the fold boosters, his line, "it is the natural obligation for soldiers to sacrifice their lives in order to protect the citizens" comes to make his honest personality stand out more strongly. This episode firmly follows up the previous episode (episode 12) by delving into Gamlin's sincerity, especially because there wasn't a good place for something like when the bonds of songs are shown off between Basara and Mylene, who was abducted during a date in the preceding episode.

Topics: The Life Of City 7 While Drifting For A Long Time
The episode adorns the beginning of City 7's life while drifting for a long time. In addition, City 7's return to the fleet comes 10 episodes later, in episode 22. During this period, just about 3 months passes in the series, and the audience, who were following the series in real time, came to experience that life while drifting with the same sensation as the characters in the series.

Although fold boosters are loaded onto the YF-19 even in 2040 (the era of "Macross Plus") and used in practise, there were problems in the fold distance and the number of times that they could be used. Although the fold boosters were still at a developmental stage even at the this point in 2045, they accomplished a dramatic evolution in performance by 2059 (the era of "Macross F"), as seen from such things as their being able to be used multiple times, and automatic standby in satellite orbit.
