Commentary
With the suffering of Basara, who lost his voice; the implementation of the Sound Energy System and Mylene's wavering emotions; and the appearance of a new Protodevilun, this episode has a lot of highlights that have continued over from previous episodes. Especially when one looks at Basara, who's unable to produce his voice, his anguished facial expression that hasn't been seen up until now, makes one realize how important songs are to him. The development where such a Basara regains his voice, because of his bond with Mylene, and the gigantic enemy is overwhelmed by the power of song, has an overwhelming feeling of catharsis that drives away the atmosphere up until then, which has been overflowing with a feeling of tragedy.
Moreover, this 27th episode is also a time where the power of Kawamori Shouji himself entered into the originally cut of the storyboards. Especially in the latter half of the episode in the series of scenes from Gamlin catching Mylene in the air - she had been thrown out from her cockpit - to Basara's restoration, in addition to drawing facial expressions with one's full might, the viewer is fascinated by the depiction of acrobatic combat that makes full use of the VF-17S's transformation.

He was struck by a deep impression of Lynn Minmei, and is a hardworking genius who graduated from the Galactic Medical University at 12, and even learnt astrophysics, elementary physics, parapsychology, and Qigong. "Chiba Masahiro", who was the model of this character, is a real person, who was in charge of this series' specification setting and the setting supervisor of the entire Macross series, is also himself a doctor.

The VF-19 Kai is influenced by the fate of Basara, whose voice was snatched away and finds himself in difficulty, appears in this episode with its characteristic "mouth" part sealed by a mask. In the last stage, the VF-19 Kai's mask also opens at the same time as Basara's singing voice is restored.
