Commentary
The episode that becomes a turning point for the series with various elements for the latter half of the story built into it, such as the formation of the Jamming Birds; the discord of Burton and Dr. Chiba, who are concerned with that; and also Basara, who is worried about the meaning of singing.
It seems that the unit's name -"Jamming (interfering) Birds (birds)"- is packed with the intention of the Unified Forces - to disturb the enemy by the force of songs. Even though the Jamming Birds turned the expectations of Burton upside down and disgraced themselves by behaving abominably in their first battle; if seen paradoxically, it led to the verification of how excellent Basara and the others are as singing people and as VF pilots.
Also, it is an episode with strong comedy colours, such as the Jamming Birds audition that gets excited in the swimsuit judging, Bobby getting his spiritia snatched away once more, and Gabiru becoming the outlet for Basara's anger. Especially Miria, who displays proportions in her swimsuit that don't appear likely for someone in their 50's, it seems that just like Max in the episode, the viewers were also amazed.

Topics: The Former Members Of The SDF-1 Macross
In the Macross [7] Fleet, there were quite a few people who once boarded the SDF-1 Macross in "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", such as Max, Miria, and Ekisedoru. From the fact that Burton says "I've seen Minmei with my own eyes from the time that she was a newcomer" in this episode, its guessed that he was also one of the people on the SDF-1. Furthermore, from the fact that the three veterans who appeared in the 14th and 15th episodes are pictured with Lynn Minmei in a photograph (bottom picture) and they carried off the Monster that they used in the First Interstellar War, its very likely that they were also the crew of the SDF-1 Macross.

Topics: The VF-11C And VF-11D Kai
The Jamming Birds exclusive aircraft are the VF-11D - the VF-11 for training with exclusive Super Parts added to them. Although its weight has has increased approximately 2 t more than the VF-11C -due to additional equipment items and being made into a two-seater-, the propulsive power itself when in Fighter has been increased, as engine related improvements have also been performed to it. However, because it was designed with the main purpose of operating the Sound Boosters in Battroid Form, its air combat abilities themselves are somewhat inferior to those of the VF-11C.

Topics: The First Battle Of The Songstresses In The Successive Series
The members of the Jamming Birds displayed a quite normal civilian-like reaction in being quite unable to sing due to fear from being on the battlefield in their first battle. Here, let's look back on the first battles of the songstresses in the successive Macross series.

Lynn Minmei (Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Episode 27 "Love Flows")
She sang five songs, such as "Love Flows", from within the Macross in the Lynn Minmei Operation, caused disorder in the enemy, and greatly contributed to the conclusion of the First Interstellar War. Even though she knew of the destruction of the Earth units and was in the depths of despair, she kept singing courageously without flinching from the enemy attacks as if her own songs were helpful.

Ishtar (Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II Episode 6 "Sing Along")
Because she was brought up as a singing shrine maiden in order to raise the fighting spirits [of the soldiers], she's considered to have already finished experiencing her first battle. She sang "Once More Love You" from the Macross in the final decisive battle on Earth, and started appealing for the coexistence of the Marduk with Earth's mankind.

Mylene Flare Jiinasu (Macross 7 Episode 23 "Sound Force")
She got into the VF-19 Kai with Basara to help the injured Basara, and demonstrated "Planet Dance" to their Varohta opponents. She has actual combat experience in addition to the control skills that she inherited from both parents, and she cheerfully pursued the enemy aircraft. By performing actions that emulated Basara's style, she displayed an experienced attitude.

Ranka Lee (Macross F Episode 18 "Fold Fame")
In order to save the Frontier Fleet, which had fallen into a crisis because of a Vajra raid, Ranka boarded the rear seat of Canaria's aircraft (the Konig Monster) and sang "Aimo O.C.". Despite being a civilian girl, she wasn't hesitant even in her first battle, and gave a glimpse of her aspects that held steady with her courage and strong intentions.

Sheryl Nome (Macross F Episode 24 "Last Frontier")
She sang "Sagittarius ☆ 9 PM Don't Be Late" during the battle to capture the Vajra Homeworld. Fear of the battlefield isn't seen in her as she has overcome adversity and returned, and partly because of the high professional meaning as an artist, she concentrated all of her spirit on raising her singing on the stage.

Preview of the Next Episode
Mylene: "Basara! What are you doing with a naked girl in the middle of the forest!"
Basara: "I'm delivering my passionate blood!"
Mylene: "What should I do?"
Basara: "Sybil is waking up."
Mylene: "Next time, "Betrayal And A Girl's Tears".
Basara: "Leap into the fire and explode Bomber!"
