Commentary
The episode that put a spotlight on Mylene and Gamlin, who are pursuing Basara, who left on a journey of wandering. One can see the distance between the pair shortening in one go through this journey, such as Gamlin reprimanding Mylene for the first time, and Mylene demanding that Gamlin address her by her first name (without honorifics). However, when passing the night in the same tent, in contrast to Gamlin, who is strongly aware of it, Mylene is very much as is with her presence of mind. From that fact, it's possible to surmise that she still doesn't consider Gamlin as "the opposite sex", and that her feelings of "liking him" have persistently not arrived at "loving him".
Also, in the latter half of the story, Basara's attempt at communicating by song to another species that is unable to come to a mutual understanding generates circumstances that stretch out to the fundamental theme of the Macross series. A similar story development to the act of communicating with animals by song, depicted during this episode, is handled and expanded upon with the Galactic Whales in the sequel, "Macross 7 Dynamite".

Topics: The New Ending Theme Song
From this 35th episode, the ending theme changed to "But Baby!!". Although the singer is Chie Kajiura, the same as the first ending theme, this time the song is credited not as Fire Bomder*'s Mylene, but in the name of the singer herself. This song wasn't used in the series, which makes it possible to infer the meaning that it's a Chie Kajiura song, and not a Mylene song. The melody sings of a girl's emotions while searching for encouragement, and it piles up the childish personality of Mylene's character in a pop song.

Topics: The Meeting Of Gubaba And Mylene
The meeting of the two began when Max, who was in the midst of investigating the 5th planet of the Pukirasesu Star System in 2036, picked up the dying Gubaba. On that planet, a large carnivore, like the ones that appeared in this episode, strode the planet, and Gubaba is a creature called the Gyararashi, which was preyed upon by animals like that (from the 9th episode of "Macross 7 Plus", "Gubaba's Planet"). Incidentally, the person in charge of sound effects, Kageyama Mitsuro, was in charge of Gubaba's voice.
