Commentary
The episode amounts to a large turning point heading toward the conclusion. The lives and deaths of the combatants are vividly depicted in a production drawn with all of the artists' might, such as Docker, who resolutely attacks the enemy lines while crying for the death of his subordinates; Gamlin, who disappears in midair with a dazzling flash; and Gabiru, who brings down such a Gamlin and doesn't keep a wicked smile to himself. The flow from the "quiet" scenes in the first stage of the story -which captures the soldiers who are waiting for the sortie overflowing with a feeling of tension-, that changes radically when the operation starts, and moves to scenes of "movement", which raises the voltage in the viewers, willing or not. The evolution in leaps and bounds that hectically change the progress of the battle from the middle to the final stage, awakens various emotions, such as thrill, excitement, sadness, and despair, and strongly captivates the people who watch it.
Also, the gallant expression of the battlefield, which is made chaotic, and Max's natural gifts -which don't appear to have declined- when he accomplishes the difficult mission by weaving his way through the gaps in the enemy, should thrill quite a few fans. And that battle is connected to the result of showing the bottomless power of Geperunicchi, who easily exceeded Max.

Topics: About Each Name For Operation Stargazer
All of the code names in Operation Stargazer originate in things related to astronomical objects. Stargazer, which is the operation's name and the mothership, denotes astronomers and astrologers. Each unit, from Aries squadron to Pisces squadron, are all crowned with constellation names from the zodiac*, and Polar Star, which is the strike target, is the fixed point in astronomical observation, and means the North Pole.
* Translator's note: kanji typo in the source. "The 12 Brass Constellations" in the text has the same reading as "the 12 Ecliptical Constellations", aka "the zodiac".
Topics: Prodigy Maximilian Jiinasu
Max is praised as a genius, who has a flying sense that was preeminent from the time he was a new recruit. Though he stepped aside from the front line due to concern for being the captain of the Macross 7 Fleet, he didn't cast aside his pride as a pilot -such as preparing a state-of-the-art aircraft for his personal use. Even though he played an extremely difficult role in the operation this time, Max completed his mission without being hit even one time.
