Commentary
The last episode that adorns the finale of the 49 episode TV broadcast, which became the longest [Macross] series. With the main staff, such as director Amino Tetsurou and series composer Tomita Sukehiro -who were in charge of the screenplay, storyboards, directing, and drawing supervision-, the episode had almost the same lineup as the first episode, and it conveyed the extraordinary power that they put into it.
That being the case, there are many highlights. And despite making respective highlight scenes for each character -such as Rei and Viheeda, who produce Song Energy in a musical performance; the singing voices of Basara and Mylene, who resuscitate Basara; and the session that crosses over species by Basara, Sybil and Geperunicchi-, a last episode-like dramatic story unfolds.
Also, the "mutual understanding of different cultures by songs", which is one of the themes in the Macross series, was also steadily digested during the episode. One could say that the conclusion, where the enemy isn't defeated, but singing brings the war to an end, at the same time as being fresh and making sense, indicated the new possibilities held in songs.

Topics: The History Of Max And Miria's Joint Fighting
Max and Miria both spur on state-of-the-art aircraft, and show a magnificent combination. The history of that sort of joint fighting by the two of them started from the very day of their marriage ceremony in the First Interstellar War ("Super Dimensional Fortress Macross" episode 25), and they united in combination on countless occasions thereafter. Also, after the great war, they were active as a pair as the Special Duty Force Dancing Skulls.

Topics: The Bouquet Girl's Wish Comes True
The Bouquet Girl continued to look for the chance to pass a bouquet to Basara, and her wish finally comes true in this episode. Even though her identity is unknown, as a matter of fact, she is one of the very few characters who appear in all 49 episodes. Also, although she has hardly any lines in this story, a girlish young lady announces the songs on "Macross 7 Docking Festival" and the drama CD for the spin-off production "Macross 7 Trash".
