Story

Commentary It's more than 2 years after the end of the broadcast of the television series. This series started being sold exactly 2 years after the release of the not broadcast episodes (Macross 7 encore), and is a completely new 4 episode OVA series. Although the main creative staff was roughly the same as the TV version, the character designer was changed to Nippa Kouichirou, who was in charge of picture drawing in the TV version. Its freshness as a newly produced OVA is strongly hammered out, with such things as opening and ending clips produced by GONZO. The story is a sequel to the TV version. At present, although Fire Bomber has become a top class popular rock band in the Galaxy, the series starts from the current Basara's feeling of nihility and sense of impatience, as he hasn't been satisfied by having finished climbing over one mountain and goes against his fame. The series carefully depicts such a Basara until he finds the new objective of singing enthusiastically to galactic whales. On the other hand, the main characters who hereafter lead the development are cleverly distributed in the story, and the episode has a suitable degree of completion to embellish the start of the series. One could say that the adorable new heroine Elma and the appeal of the new group of VFs that appear with such VFs as the VT-1C and VF-5000G are the points to enjoy in this volume.

Topics: Production of the Ending Which Used Real Photographs
A novel production was tried in the ending of this series where real photographic backgrounds were used together with animated characters. It set Basara travelling all over the world while singing. One is able to say that the direction [of the series] seems to be more like a road movie, thanks to this ending.

Topics: Planet Dance Zola Language ver.
During the episode, even though Elma was singing "Planet Dance" while cooking, the song lyrics she used at the time were in the Zolan language. As a matter of fact, a Zolan and Japanese translation table was properly prepared for the series, just like what had been done with the Zentraadi language, and the lyrics of the original "Planet Dance" were faithfully reproduced in a translation based on that Zolan translation table.

Preview of the Next Episode
Mylene: "Yeesh, where is that damned fool Basara wandering by himself without a care for anyone. I've had some kind of earth-shatteringly disagreeable premonition... Surely it can't be because he's going to die, however one way or another, I'm awfully anxious... Good grief, he lacks a sense of what's dangerous or is a danger!!"
Basara: "Isn't the danger oriented toward you?"
Mylene: "Say wha!?"
Basara: "You know, you should be careful because you're still a child."
Mylene: "What the hell!"
