Commentary
Although there were voices that were concerned about the degree of episode 2's completion, as episode 1 had an excessively high quality, with the start of the series broadcast, those voices changed to sighs of wonder, and the expectations for "Macross F (Frontier)" rose even more. Points that even old-timer fans couldn't miss were included in such a second episode, such as "a Valkyrie rescuing the heroine who was thrown into the sky" and "the protagonist in GERWALK blindly firing his gun pod in fighting in the city streets". Furthermore, there were all sorts of components that are irresistible to former "Macross" fans, such as Nekki Basara's singing voice flowing without change in Fire Bomber's "Storming Love Hurt", one of "Macross 7"'s representative songs, in the car that Ozuma was using to give Aruto a ride to S.M.S..
Also take note of the earring that Sheryl frantically searched for casually mixed up in the items that Gilliam left behind.

Topics: Enigmatic Living Weapons
The living weapon units that are referred to as the Vajra are alien life-forms similar to insects, and they differ from the humanoid enemies that have been encountered in Macross so far, such as the Zentraadi soldiers and Protodevilun. This alien life form, which puts to an end the conflicts with humanoids that had proven to be successful in the Macross series so far, is said to have been created from General Director Kawamori Shoji embracing his interest in something like an ecosystem that originated in his experiences with such things as gathering data about areas he hasn't personally explored.

Topics: The inherited acrobatic rescue drama
In the "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", there is an episode where Ichijo Hikaru's Valkyrie catches Lynn Minmei, who has been thrown out into the sky, in the same way as this episode of Macross F. However, in "Macross F (Frontier)", Ranka isn't merely caught, the EX-Gear is shown being cleverly used in a further evolution of the sequence that doesn't end as a mere reproduction of the original.
