Commentary
This third episode depicts a situation where Aruto, Ranka and Sheryl are locked up in a closed space and come to recognize each other more strongly; and it gives the viewer expectations on how the relationships between the three of them will develop in the future. On top of that, the secrets that surround Ranka are revealed one after another - such as the realities of Ranka's past and the memory disorder due to that event, and Ozuma isn't really Ranka's true brother- and the viewer grasps that Ranka isn't only an ordinary, cheerful girl.
Viewers can readily understand that the "Miss Macross Contest", which became the opportunity for Lynn Minmei to rise up to become a top idol in "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", is something that is being continuously inherited in Macross, even in the world of 2059.
The mechanical checkpoint of the episode is the finely detailed depiction of the VF-25G shooting an anchor to settle the fuselage and carry out sniping attacks. In addition, the popular VB-6 Konig Monster appears on a monitor when communicating, although it is just for a moment.

The VB-6 Konig Monster is a craft that's the equivalent to the successor of "Macross Zero"'s HWR-00-MkIP and "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross"'s HWR-00-MkII. This craft enabled the Monster to transform into 3 forms. It first appeared in the game "Macross VF-X2". Although the name Konig was decided by a general public appeal [in the real world], in universe, the VB-6 was named after it's developer, Dr. Konig Tiegel.

The scene were Aruto, Ranka and Sheryl are locked up in the evacuation shelter in this episode emulates the scenes of Hikaru and Minmei locked up in a closed section in "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", and Basara and Mylene locked up in a freezer in "Macross 7". In "Macross", one can say that it's customary for the hero and heroine to get locked up in closed spaces.
