Commentary
The episode that becomes the foundation for the latter half of the series, where the important character that underlays the "Macross F" world view, Richard Birla, talks about his dream, and Aruto's sense of values are shaken once more when he perceives the Vajra like mankind's natural enemy. Also, it's the episode where the sentiments of each character are effectively contrasted, such as the feelings of Sheryl, who has lost her position as a popular singer; the manner that Ranka ascends the path of stardom; and the youth Ozuma and Burera, who watch over Ranka.
However, great adversity lies in wait from now on even for Ranka, who seams to be sailing smoothly, and Brera's unexpected relationship with Ranka comes to be clarified. Although this episode has many highlights, such as the intense battle scene in the "Ranka Attack" and the style of Aruto and Sheryl's love comedy, it is also an episode that has varied foreshadowing, in preparation for future developments in the series.

Topics: Brera, Who Suddenly Became A Popular Person
Brera, who appears at Mihoshi Academy as Ranka's guard, is bathed in the heated gaze of the female students as a person of gossip, even in front of the school gate and in the classroom. With such things as the article in the magazine that Sheryl was reading in the 15th episode -where Brera was introduced as "The Soldier Who Saved The Fresh Singer Ranka From The Vajra Is A Pretty Boy Hero"-, his degree of familiarity and popularity seems to have risen all at once in the Frontier Fleet. Although the person concerned must have had a lot of secret missions, he seemed to have not been interested in all the attention on himself.

Topics: Recollections Of The Varohta Campaign
Just before the Ranka Attack, Kuran mentions the Protodevilun. Although they are a species that fought with the human race in the Varohta Campaign in "Macross 7", it seems that in the "Macross F" world, the official record of that campaign exists only in outline, and the details of it are unknown. The anecdotes by which Ozuma and every one in S.M.S. later know the depths of that campaign are depicted in the theatrically screened"Macross FB7", beginning with an encounter with the Protodevilun Gabiru.
