Commentary
The episode where Ozuma fights bravely for his beloved Ranka. The episode depicts the figure of Ozuma in his younger days when he adopted Ranka, and also clearly spells out that he was previously boyfriend and girlfriend with Cathy. Even though Ozuma, who has a role "like the protagonist's older brother", is the character that took over the position that Roy Fokker had in "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", this episode advances a story that is strongly aware of the 18th episode of "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", "Pineapple Salad", when Fokker was killed in action. Beginning with the appearance of dishes with the pineapple motif, the drama unfolds where the viewers worries concern Ozuma's death in action. Also, it is the piece that includes the elements that are succeeded from now on, such as Michelle, who acts for Sheryl; and the quick look at the true colours of Brera.

Topics: An Enka Ballad In Rock Music
The depictions of Ozuma, who is a big fan of Fire Bomber, listening to "My Soul For You" in his room and "Try Again" in his car, are seen in this episode. Evaluated as "rock" by Michelle, and as "Enka" by Aruto, they clearly express Ozuma's fighting style - the character of a man who hides a hot heart inside.

The VF-25S defending the bridge of the Macross Quarter. The appearance of the VF-25S standing still against the backdrop of an orange ball of fire is something that calls to mind a familiar illustration on a VF-1S plastic model package (left). Also, in this episode, the VF-25S, which was normally active with Armoured Equipment, is also seen in an unusual appearance where it fights in a normal specification.
Caption: On the left is is the box art of the 1/100 scale VF-1S that was released by Arii at the time of the original broadcast. It's possible to say that the soul of Fokker and the VF-1S dwell in Ozuma and his beloved VF-25S.

Topics: Homages To The 18th Episode Of "Macross"
As mentioned at the beginning, this episode is loaded with homages of the 18th episode of "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", "Pineapple Salad". Even Fokker and Claudia of "Macross" have a similar scene to the one where Michelle makes a request to Kuran. And the pineapple cake that serves to recall Ozuma and talking with Cathy suggest the pineapple salad that Claudia made for Fokker. Among them, the scene that is no doubt an homage is the one where the maintenance staff are dumbfounded at seeing the bloodstains on the respective seats of Ozuma's and Fokker's aircraft (pictured). This depiction seems to have had old time fans who know about the 18th episode of "Macross" being reminded of the death in that episode and thinking, "By no means is Ozuma...". Incidentally, General Director Kawamori Shouji also later mentioned that that scene was "overkill".
