Super Dimensional Fortress Macross - Flash Back 2012
Story

The First Interstellar War was concluded in 2012, when the Mankind Sowing Project commenced, with its goal of continuing the human species and its culture. Macross City, which is in preparation for the imminent launch of the First Super Long Range Emigrant Fleet that made the Megaroad 01 its flagship, holds a "Goodbye Concert" by Lynn Minmei. The past, present and future... at the intersection of the various feelings that are held by the Minmei of the differing eras, the Megaroad 01 takes on Minmei's singing voice and flies away from the Earth. There are Hayase Misa on the ship's bridge, Ichijo Hikaru in a VF-4 of the escort unit, and the forms of the people with deep connections to Minmei on it.*

* Translator's note: originally was: "Lynn Minmei held a Good-bye Concert in Macross City, which is in preparation for the imminent launch of the Megaroad 01 in 2012, when the Mankind Sowing Project was developed. Various past and present hopes are placed on the Megaroad 01, and it flies away together with Minmei's singing voice."

[o] Caption: Together with Minmei's songs, various past memories flash back. And then mankind begins a trip to the future led by Hayase Misa and Ichijo Hikaru.

[o] Related Matter: The Phantom Movie Ending
The original idea for the 1984 released theatrical movie "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Do You Remember Love?" was planned to have a scene where the heroine Lynn Minmei sings "Angel's Paints" in a concert venue flowing during the ending film credits. Although it caused a countless number of setting images and the key frames were partially drawn, the production of this scene was suspended for several reasons. Several years after the release, the original video animation (OVA) that was planned to reproduce this phantom ending was this "Flash Back 2012".

Caption: The setting picture of the concert venue that was drawn for the ending of the movie version. It was appropriated roughly as is for this OVA.

Left: Minmei's costume for the movie version's concert scene. It has a simpler atmosphere than the "Flash Back" version.

[o] Various Minmei
During "Flash Back 2012", various outfits of Minmei appear, from the past, future and present points of time.

[o] Right: During the drama, what Minmei wore in the scene where she reflects on when she confronted her parents and ran away from home, had a warm colour scheme.

[o] Left: The mature Minmei, who is seen in her mid-thirties. She wears clothes based on black, which give the impression of a mourning dress.
