Episode: FB 01A & B: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Flash Back 2012 |
---|
Story
Lynn Minmei's "Goodbye Summer Concert Tour", which was held in Macross City, ended in the summer of 2012 amid great success. In September of the same year, the First Super Long Range Emigrant Fleet, which used the Megaroad 01 as its flagship -in which Captain Hayase Misa embarked-, left on a voyage that aimed at the center of the galaxy. At the time of the Megaroad's space launch, Minmei also stepped forward one new step.
Commentary
A music clip collection that was mixed and produced from such things as clips from the TV series "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross" and the movie "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Do You Remember Love?", newly drawn illustrations, and newly produced clips, with live clips added in. In a production that was produced in response to the Original Video Animation (OVA) that had begun to be established at the time in 1984, the music clips -which comprise the majority of this compilation- were produced by making good use of video editing. The editing of the clips took Kawamori Shouji -who was the director- 60 to 70 hours, and it's said that he kept in mind that it was a video production, that was seen on home TVs, and he directed it with a showy appearance in such things as the colours.
"The Paint Of Angels", which flows at the beginning and end, is a completely new production, and it develops a thick drawing density that is distinctive of OVAs. Appearing in it are Minmei, Hikaru, and Misa -by drawing supervisor Haruhiko Mikimoto and are several years old-, and the Megaroad 01 and VF-4 -whom Kawamori Shoji was in charge of designing and providing genga for. In addition, although there are two figures of Minmei -the Minmei who gets on and begins a journey on the Megaroad, and the Minmei who sees the Megaroad off-, according to director Kawamori, this production is assumed to be a future story to the utmost, and he commented that whether Minmei boarded the Megaroad and began a journey or not is likely to change depending on your mood when you view it (after that, as the Macross series was in the midst of expansion, for convenience's sake, Minmei came to have "boarded the Megaroad").

Topics: The Original Ending Of "Do You Remember Love?"
Flash Back 2012's newly produced clips was placed into "The Paint Of Angels" (as a video that reedits the concert clips) that flows at the end of the "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Do You Remember Love? Complete Version" video and Laser Disc software, which were was sold in 1992, and it became an ending close to the one that was originally intended (when the movie was released, there were no images, and it only had the staff roll on a black background). In addition, it was possible to select and playback the "Complete Edition" and the "Theatrically Released Edition" on the HD remaster edition DVD that was sold after that, and on the BD edition "Do You Remember Love? Hybrid Pack" that was sold in 2012.

Caption: Thereupon, Hikaru appears and hands a microphone to Minmei. Before one becomes aware of it, Minmei's appearance returns to her former one. In response to Misa's smile, Minmei begins to sing "The Paint Of Angels".
Caption: The Minmei who aimed at being a singer and left home, the Minmei who debuted as a singer - various memories flash back.
Caption: The former Minmei happens to be at the Macross Space Launch Ceremony, and begins to walk on the path of an idol. And now, a new Emigrant Fleet takes off to space. Misa serves as the captain of the newly produced Megaroad 01.
Topics: VF-4
The VF-4, which appears for the first time in the shots produced for this production, is a new VF that was designed with the setting of being the VF-1's successor. Even though it appears only in Fighter mode in this production, Kawamori Shouji -who designed it- commented in an anime-mook at the time that "even though the VF-4 doesn't transform in this work, it is able to". After that, when the "Macross Digital Mission VF-X" game was being produced, a three-stage transformation mechanism for the VF-4 was formally designed by Kawamori.
[The Paint Of Angels Con't]
Caption: The Megaroad 01 appears, and Minmei starts on a journey across the galaxy. The Minmei that sees the ship off also has a bright facial expression, and seems to step forward in a new, different step.
Caption: The escort units of Hikaru -who boards a VF-4- are taken along, and the Megaroad 01 leaves the Earth's atmosphere.
Caption: The past mixes with the future. The future Minmei bows in the deserted concert venue.
Caption: Together with the memories, mankind begins to walk toward tomorrow, and Minmei -who finishes singing "The Paint Of Angels"- is wrapped in applause.
Caption: Minmei is covered in a white light. Don't you agree that there's something before her eyes when she smiles at the end?
Runner
Caption: The ending is a "Runner" duet by Fujiwara Makoto and Iijima Mari. The backdrop to the staff credit roll is illustrations by Haruhiko Mikimoto of Minmei, who is starting on a journey.
Caption: After the staff credit roll, the letters for "Flash Back" -which is also the title of this production- are depicted on the screen, and the production comes to an end.
