Commentary The first episode that puts Misa in the spotlight, and is a story that strongly emphasizes her presence as one of the main heroines in this series. Even though Misa has left a strong impression as a "nagging old lady" up until now, it turns out that she had a tragic love with Ryber in the past. This was the depiction of Director Ishiguro Noboru's mantra: "there are various sides to each person who has lived". After this episode, the series came to intensify its delving into the depiction of Misa. Incidentally, when asked who was the "Miss Macross" of this series by anime magazines after this episode was broadcast, Kawamori Shōji recommended Misa. He is purported to have given the reason, "she bravely over-stretches herself with all her might as a servicewoman, and it's cute when her faults occasionally appear." Also, Kamjin appears as a new enemy character in this episode. Although he has the visage of the so-called "beautiful rival character", as uncouth Kamjin's actions cannot be truly predicted, he brought an air of tension to the rest of the series.

* Although this episode was broadcast by the coordinating channel Mainichi Broadcasting (broadcast region: Kinki-wide) at the normal time on November 21 (Sunday) from 2 PM, TBS (broadcast region: Kantō wide), who were a net station, didn't televise "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross" as they were televising the "National High School Rugby Tokyo 1st and 2nd District Tournament Final" from 1 to 3 PM on the same day. This episode was televised on TBS two days later, from 3 PM, on November 23 (Tuesday and the Labour-Thanksgiving Day national holiday).

Also, the novel "Hayase Misa's White Reminisce" (Tokuma Shop and Publishing), published in 1984, depicts the meeting of Misa and Ryber and her personal history before she takes up her post in the Macross.
