Commentary
This is the episode that ought to be called the prologue of Minmei's running up to stardom in a single bound. The fine gestures when Minmei fixes the edge of her bathing suit in the bathing suit judgement scene was sensational for not only the viewers, but also from the internal female staff, and the genga staff member Kadokami Yōko also commented, "those powers of observation are amazing". Incidentally, although Minmei's bust is displayed as 80 in the show, it's said that it was specified as 84 at the genga stage. The direction of this episode was by Yamaga Hiroyuki, who was a newcomer at the time (5 years later, he served as the director of "Royal Space Force—Wings of Oneamisu". He was in charge of this episode's storyboards, and he needed close to two months for their creation. In addition, the Armoured Valkyrie appears for the first time in the series. It included an abundance of fascinating mechanical depictions, such as the scenes where it simultaneously fires all of the missiles that the entire body is equipped with, and the depiction of the pilot boarding from the Battroid's neck via a gangway and launching in a way that differs from the normal Fighter form; and the way it removes the armour and breaks into the enemy craft with the gun pod and head lasers.

Topics—The Origin of the Names for Warera, Rory, and Konda
The Zentrādi reconnaissance unit "Blue Wind" three-man group that first appears in this episode is known to have been cheaply named by splitting the sentence "Our Lolita complex." In addition, between anime fans at the beginning of the '80's, "Lolita complex" indicated a "preference to love the heroines in their teens (10-19) that appear in anime productions", and was a word that had a nuance close to that of moe, which is said now.

Topics—Powerful Drawings of the Armoured Valkyrie
Mr. Itano Ichirō was in charge of drawing the pictures for the scene where the Armoured Valkyrie simultaneously fired its missiles. It's a scene with impact as wake-like exhaust smoke is pulled back and a countless number of missiles boisterously dance, and it became a topic of the talk between fans at that time. Also, it seems that director Yamaga Hiroyuki got Mr. Miyatake Kazutaka to draw the genga for the shot (pictured) of Hikaru holding the control stick—in the scene where he intercepts the enemy craft's missiles shortly before the one by Mr. Itanō—by "bribing him with cake".

The Macross's radar system becomes unavailable due to an intimidation attack by the Zentrādi Fleet. In the midst of that, the Cat's Eye Reconnaissance Craft that Misa boarded is protected by Hikaru's squadron and leaves the Macross behind. Next time on "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross": 'Blind Game'.
