Commentary
The distance between Misa and Hikaru gets shorter in the process of escaping from the Zentrādi. On the other hand, the Zentrādi Miclonization technology and the Rapu Ramizu Fleet—a women only fleet—also make their first appearances. This is the episode that is a turning point in the story that has continued from the preceeding episodes. Also, Miria, who later falls in love with Max, also makes her debut in this episode. Incidentally, Kawamori Shōji (who was also in charge of this episode's storyboards) said in a Mook at the time that if there had been another episode in the midst of the enemy, they had planned to have the giant Miria and the human-sized Max meet. This episode is one that Hirano Toshihiro (currently Hirano Toshiki) worked on as animation director following episodes 5 and 7, and he was also in charge of most of the drawings of the Quadoran-Rō's battlefield scene. The actions of Miria's Powered Suit, which charges the length and breadth of the battlefield while spewing out pink smoke, became a very popular scene among fans at the time of the show's broadcast.

Topics—The Zentrādi: Can They Tidy-up?
The glass in the Buritai Ship's control room that had been destroyed by Max's craft in this episode is left broken even when Buritai reappears thereafter (in the 20th episode). Its choreography that says, "the giants don't have the general concept of 'repairing'." However, the broken glass pieces are tidied up by a subordinate soldier (pictured) in this episode, and the Zentrādi seem to tentatively also have the general concept of 'cleaning'.

Topics—Minmei's Songs Have an Effect on the Battlefield
The choreography of the Macross series tradition—said to be "the ballad that the singer is singing flowing in the background when an intense battle unfolds"—actually appeared for the first time in this episode. The mismatch between a combat scene and a popular song also came up in the gossip between fans at the time. Incidentally, this episode won second place after episode 27 in the "directing section" of the popularity contests in Mooks when the series was being broadcast.
