Commentary While depicting the short break of Hikaru, Misa, and the other protagonists, the episode inserts into various interludes the circumstances of the 3 members of the Blue Wind reconnaissance squadron, who had infiltrated into the Macross and were shocked by such things as civilian life and the transformation of the Macross. The emphasis is on delving into the emotions of each character, especially Hikaru's murmured, "the lights are kind of bright, eh?" when he gazes at Minmei, who has achieved her debut as an idol and is becoming distant; which hints at developments after this. Also, the relationships of the protagonists and their surrounding characters is also carefully depicted, such as each one of the bridge crew who meets Misa—who had returned alive—and Fokker saying "take the day off and I'll drive you to the barracks" and shows his appreciation to Hikaru and the others in his own way. On the other hand, it is an episode where the relationship between the Macross and the Zentrādi Forces can be seen to change because of contact with the aliens; such as Global, who receives the reports from Misa and others, and concludes that "the enemy forces will not carelessly make a move on the Macross".

Topics—The "Zentrādi" Appellation is Established So far, even though the Zentrādi Forces were referred to as "enemy forces", "giants" and so on by the Earth side, Claudia refers to them as "the fleet of the so-called Zentrādi" at the beginning of this episode. Probably according to communications from the Zentrādi in the 10th episode and the information that Misa and the others brought back, the formal name became established in the Earth side. Incidentally, the SDF-1 is called "Macross" on the Zentrādi side from the 12th episode.

Topics—The "Macross" Event at the Beginning of 1983 This episode was telecast on Jan. 9, 1983. As the key stations stopped the broadcast of "Macross"—starting with the flagship MBS station (Mainichi Broadcasting)—one week earlier on Jan. 2, the 9th became the first date "Macross" was broadcast in 1983. Incidentally, a "Macross" event was held at MBS on that Jan. 2, and a recording remains of it being broadcast on the radio. When one saw photos that were published in anime magazines at the time, it becomes clear that the regular heroine voice actress group (Doi Mika, Ohara Noriko, Ījima Mari, etc.) all appeared at the event.

Preview of the Next Episode The Macross returned alive to Earth. However, as far as Captain Global is concerned, an even more powerful enemy lies in wait. The Unified Government and the upper echelons of the Armed Forces. How can they accept the facts concerning the Zentrādi that are hard to believe? Next time, "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", "Global's Report".
