Commentary A shocking episode in which Fokker is killed in action. Instead of a traditional heroic robot-anime development, the staging where Fokker—who was seriously injured in a turbulent battle—visited his lover despite his injuries and collapsed there, greatly shocked the viewers at the time. Akira Kamiya, who played Fokker, liked Fokker as he was a grown-up character that was different from Akira's previous roles. Akira lamented Fokker's death in anime magazines at the time despite the role being expected to become his new piece de resistance. The point of the drawings is absolutely the battle between Miria and Max, and the flow of the aerial battle where missiles go bananas to the pursuit battle in Macross City became a huge topic in the anime magazines at that time. Ichirō Itano, who was in charge of drawing, also commented in an anime magazine mid-broadcast that he liked this scene the most in his work on "Macross".

Topics—The Nurse: Was She Actually a Popular Character? The nurse appeared in the hospital room scene where Hikaru is hospitalized. Despite a short appearance, she was noticed by fans for her curiously enthusiastically drawn pictures, and she displayed a good fight by ranking 9th in the women's category in the popularity contest of an anime mook that came out later. Incidentally, according to the data printed in the mook, the nurse's real name is Haruka Mizuhara (18 years old). She is from the North American sector, and her stats are 158 cm, 45 kg, and B 84, W 57, H 83.

Topics—The Repercussions Of Fokker's Death Fokker's death in this episode caused various repercussions in the fans and staff. An article published in the 4th issue of the information magazine "Macross News", which was sold in model shops at the time, published an article about more than 20 sympathizing fans holding Fokker's "funeral service" in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture on Feb. 26—the week after this episode was broadcast (it seems to have been a fairly genuine ceremony, with such things as a memorial address having been read out). Also, an article was published in an anime magazine's recording studio report column about Fokker's actor Akira Kamiyama bringing a "funeral offering" to the recording session.

Preview of the Next Episode Captain Global, who had been contacted about the acceptance of the refugees on the Macross, turned the Macross's course towards North America. With their destination before their very eyes, the Macross is attacked by Kamujin and responds with the Omnidirectional Barrier, which increases the Macross's output. Next time, "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", "Burst Point".
