Commentary
The story in which the Macross is forced to vacate to space as-is with many citizens still on board. According to Shōji Kawamori at the time, he intended to make the Macross itself look like a new Earth at this point. The Macross is depicted as becoming a new foundation of the heart for various people in this episode, with the young people who adapt to the current situation and call themselves "Macross people", the town chairman regaining hope for tomorrow with Minmei's light-hearted persuasion, and the Zentrādi who are interested in the Macross as "a place with culture".
In addition, the insertion of depictions that delve into the emotions of the characters at key points also takes part in enhancing the emotions of the entire episode: Hikaru writing a letter to Kakizaki's parents—who are still on Earth—while filled with grief; Global suffering from his responsibility for the citizens and unintentionally stubbing out his cigarette on his hand; and Kaifun patting Global on the shoulder after the meeting finishes, casually cheering him up.

Topics—Buritai's Ship Which Wasn't "Repaired"
Buritai's ship reappears in this episode. The glass dome on the command room in the bridge is still like how we last saw it in the 12th episode: smashed by Max's VF-1A. This is a depiction of the poor concept of "doing repairs" in the Zentrādi Forces. However, looking at the fact that Warera and others repair a Rigādo in this episode, it doesn't mean that the Zentrādi completely lack the concept of doing repairs.

Topics—The Commodified "Minmei Doll"
The Minmei Doll that first appeared in episode 18 also appears in this and the 29th episodes. In the series, the doll had the feature of singing several of Minmei's songs while walking. It was a palm-sized toy. Incidentally, in addition to being sold at the time of broadcast as a plastic model "Walking Minmei Doll" by Imai, the Minmei Doll is a popular item that has been commodified by several companies—such as being turned into a real doll in the "Macross Collection Part.1" trading figures (pictured), which were released by CM's Corporation in 2003.
