Commentary
The episode where Misa heads to Earth as the representative of the Macross, which is the Earth's mediator with the Zentraadi. It is a piece that generally tenderly depicts the characters. Misa's father Hayase Takashi in particular is depicted as a good father, in such things as the appearance of a family photograph that adorns his desk and the casual chat with Misa. However, in the latter half he shows a completely different side as a cool-headed soldier using the decisive Grand Cannon weapon to try to make the Zentraadi surrender, and the awareness of the difference between the Macross side and the Earth Unified Forces side becomes clear to Hayase Misa and the others. Also, it is extremely interesting on the Macross side, with the circumstances of Max, who is taken with Miria at first sight; and Claudia's suggestion that "there is a well-matched person" to heartbroken Hikaru, who was struck by Minmei's utterance, "we're only friends". The depiction of the Macross's Bridge, which is taken care of in Misa's absence overflows with a particular vigour, and it's possible to say that this is the piece where the wisdom of expert Takayama Fumihiko, who was in charge of directing this episode, can be felt.

Max boards a blue VF-1J from this episode. On the other hand, Hikaru boards a Super Parts equipped VF-1S, and the aircraft they board is ranked up to face the coming decisive battle.
Incidentally, the line"I did it" from Kamjin, who battles Max and the others in this episode, was a popular phrase around 1982, and is an expression that spread because of a car commercial.

Topics: The Portrait Of The Hayase Family
The admiral, a very young Misa, and Misa's mother are pictured in the photograph that adorns Admiral Hayase's desk in this episode. In addition, according to the materials at the time, because of the description "Misa's parents are divorced and her father took custody and raised her", it seems that this photograph was taken before the divorce.
