Commentary
The final episode of the TV series "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross". Even though it called for the end of the Kamjin faction's insurrection drama, which pulled the story along after the conclusion of the First Interstellar War, what strongly gathered the interest of the viewers when it was originally broadcast was the direction of the protagonists' love triangle. The conclusion of this story, where Hikaru doesn't pick Minmei, but picks Misa, caused repercussions among fans, such as becoming a controversy in the readers' corner of anime magazines at the time. The flow in front of Misa -who faces the captain's position of a space emigrant ship-, where Hikaru personally recognizes his true feelings of wanting to be near her, is impressive. The Space Emigration Plan that appears here is the foundation of the Macross world that continues to spread even now. The event where the Macross floats again is also an appropriate adornment for the end of the program. Also, the "gentle" ending by Hikaru -who doesn't want to hurt the opposite sex-, and the actions of the characters -Hikaru and Misa changing the path that they make progress on, and Minmei, who leaves from their location-, symbolizes the episode's subtitle, and is also pleasing.

Topics: "Macross" After The End Of Its Broadcast
The "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross" TV series concluded in this thirty-sixth episode, and the second part of the "Super Dimensional" series, "Super Dimensional Century Orguss", began from the following week in the same time slot. However, Sendai's Tohoku Broadcasting had already started its broadcast from July 1st, and "Macross" was rebroadcast from July 2nd at Osaka Mainichi Broadcasting -a key station in Macross's broadcast-, and continuing for a long time, the "Macross" story continued to be able to be seen on TV, according to the region. Also, the movie version, which was rumoured while the TV series was in the midst of being broadcast, was formally announced at "The Presentation Of The Decision For A Theatrically Released Movie", which was held in Tokyo Shiba Park Hotel on Oct. 11, 1983, three months from the end of the broadcast. It was announced at the same gathering that the movie version would be a completely new production, and that new mecha would also appear in it.

Topics: Kamjin "After That"
Although Kamjin was shown when he dramatically died in the last part of the episode, as a matter of fact, in the initial draft of this episode's script, he wasn't supposed to die. The initial draft had content with Kamjin escaping from the Medium Gunship in a booster attached Guraaji (Rap Ramizu also escapes in a Battle-suit), and charging at the bridge of the Macross, as-is. However, Hikaru's Valkyrie volunteers himself, and protects Misa from Kamujin's attack. Kamjin, who is subdued by Max and Miria immediately after that, is entrusted to Buritai, and comes to be forged again as a member of the Earth Defence Fleet... In addition, an article based on this initial script was published in an anime magazine immediately after the final episode, which said that "a child was born between Kamjin and Rap Ramizu, who came to be attached to the Buritai Fleet after the final episode". It's guessed that somehow or another, Kamjin's "death" is likely to have been decided with fairly limited timing.
