Commentary
As might be expected from the last episode, there are a lot of highlights in the scenario, directing, shots, and animation, such as the ultra high-speed dogfight by the YF-19 and YF-21, which includes urban warfare; the masterpiece clip of beauty, where the gigantic Macross comes alive; the three leads reconciling after seven years; and Guld's death.
Also, we would like you to notice the point where "the uprising of the machine that has a will", one of the themes of the series, is markedly expressed. Even though it is a universal subject in SF productions, by piling Myung's songs and the affection for Isamu onto it, it succeeds in showing a Macross-like drama.
And, the "Dedicated to you. Our future pioneers...", which adorns the last part of the story, is a message that's aimed at the viewers. From there, they could express their gratitude to the fans, who promptly picked up the "Macross Plus" series that was produced with state-of-the-art imaging techniques at the time of its release, and supported it to the end; and it was possible to decipher their expectations for future creators who will surely later follow. In addition, when seen with the phrase at the outset of Episode 1, "Dedicated to all pioneers...", the deep emotions are even more profound.

"DEFCON (Defence Readiness Condition)" indicates the actual defence provisions that are used by the American Department Of Defence. Although DEFCON 5 was the lowest rank that was officially announced in the series, by all rights, the inability to get a response on communication lines and the forced operation of the defensive systems was proportionate to DEFCON 2 or higher. From this false detection, one can understand that Sharon had already seized the Macross's defensive systems.

The Earth Defence Fleet, which is deployed in satellite orbit, unites for the New Unified Space Government's 30th anniversary memorial ceremony on Earth. The fleet was operated as the attending ships of a Super Long Range Emigrant Fleet, and was mainly composed of such ships as Stealth Carriers and Stealth Frigates. The escort vessels, which are like isomorph ships to those carriers and frigates and improved ships, also appeared in "Macross 7" and "Macross F". With them, it is possible to catch a glimpse of the connections between the different Macross productions.
