Commentary
The concluding movie in the two movie "Theatrical Edition Macross F" series. It was released one year and three months after the preceding movie "Theatrical Edition Macross F ~The False Diva~", which recorded a total audience mobilization of 220,000 in only two weeks after its premiere. While "The False Diva" partially appropriated shots from the "Macross F" TV series, this movie features the point where, except for a small proportion of scenes that recollect the previous movie, it is almost completely newly produced animation.
The story takes over the contents of "The False Diva", and the story develops in the setting of the world three months after the last scene of the previous movie. At the same time as it derives a single conclusion for the love triangle of the three protagonists Aruto, Sheryl, and Ranka, the movie even more deeply cuts into the largest topic in "Theatrical Macross F ~The False Diva~": the "suspicion that Sheryl is a spy". This movie's highlight might be the speculations of the Macross Frontier Government and the Galaxy Fleet -which sent out Sheryl- that mutually clash with each other, and the tactics that seesaw back and forth. Also, while the Tornado Pack -which is an enhancement specification for the lead actor's VF-25F in the previous movie- plays an active role, the YF-29 Durendal, a completely new aircraft, appears in this movie. Concerning the depiction of mecha, a lot of ideas that suddenly appear for the spectator were incorporated into the movie, such as the action of the YF-29 where the screen narrows as the protagonist Aruto rides it and rushes about, and the S.M.S. force and the New Unified Forces that hurry to come to assistance in the climax.
In addition, before its opening in September 2010, a news flash film for this movie was shown in movie theatres all over Japan. Even though it was only about 1 minute long, its new shots and a lot of dialogue that depended on completely new recordings greatly stirred up the expectations of "Macross F" fans. Especially the point of the line "by acquiring something, I lose something" that was recited by Aruto, is also one of the themes of the two-part "Theatrical Macross F" that was held by director Kawamori Shoji.

Topics: The Collaboration With Tezuka Osamu's Characters
In addition to the manga artist Tezuka Osamu's "Tetsuwan Atom", "Black Jack", and Marvellous Melmo", such characters as Hyuutantsugi and Spider appear in the movie (bottom picture). This is an idea that director Kawamori Shoji included as respect for the works of Tezuka, who was one of the starting points of Japanese anime.

Topics: Nanase's First Appearance In The Movie Version
Even though Matsuura Nanase was a school friend in Mihoshi Academy who attended the school with Aruto and the others in the TV series, she appears in the movie version as a female staff member of Elmo's company. In the beginning, it's assumed that she took her turn on Mayan Island. Incidentally, the Mihoshi Academy in the movies appears only in little scenes, such as when the "Hypnosis" Operation is put into operation (bottom picture) in the middle of the movie.

Topics: The Theme Is The First Interstellar War
As the song lyrics for "Love Is A Dogfight" are based on the First Interstellar War, that is to say, the subject of "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", the VF-1 was used as the stage setting. In addition, this aircraft's colour and Ranka's costume take in "Macross 7" designs.

Topics: Training As An Oyama*
Sheryl peeled an apple in Aruto's hospital room for him. Even though she had a brave appearance, her manner of peeling was so rough, that she cut her finger. On the other hand, Aruto skillfully handled the knife. It seems possible for one to say that it is unique to him, as he was in the habit of behaving as a Kabuki Oyama from when he was a child.

* Translator's note: Oyama - male actor in female Kabuki roles.

Topics: The Internal Organs Origin Of The Mind Hypothesis
In the analyses so far, the organ that corresponds to a brain in such creatures as humans doesn't exist in the Vajra, so they were also regarded as not having a "mind". However, according to the "Internal Organs Origin" theory, which was introduced by Canaria and Kuran, the mind dwells in the internal organs, and it presumes that the Vajra should also be intelligent life that actually have their own will.

Topics: Ranka's Backup Band Lovely Bomber
The Backup Band Lovely Bomber was born in a suggestion by Ranka, and became the decoy in rescuing Sheryl. It is composed of each person in S.M.S., and members such as Kuran used costumes and musical instruments that imitated those of "Macross 7"'s Fire Bomber. Luca worked behind the scenes, and hacked the internal security system.

Topics: The Confrontation Of The Two Elder Brothers
As far as Ranka is concerned, Brera is her real older brother, and Ozuma is her adoptive elder brother. The scene where the two open up in mortal combat is one of the middle climaxes of the movie. This was also Director Kawamori Shouji and others plan to prepare the viewers for the lifelong separation of Aruto and Sheryl, and is said to have initially been considered to have been a fight in a closed space between Ozuma's VF-25S and Brera's VF-27γ.

Topics: The Last Moments Of Mishima And Others
The greatest difference with the TV series is the last moments of Mishima, Howard and others, who are killed by Brera. From that sequence, the story is more dramatic, and heads toward a direction that exceeds the expectations of the people who watch the movie.

Topics: The Reputation Of The Protagonist Of The Macross Series
There are a lot of examples of Japanese people or Japanese style names in the protagonists of the Macross series, and even in this movie, when the Saotome troupe performed "The Feather Mantle" in the galaxy, it becomes clear that Aruto's name on the poster is written in kanji as "Aruto".* This "Aruto"* name setting was capitalized on even in the "Macross FF" comic, which followed the "Theatrical Macross F" world view.

* Translator's note: content lost in translation. Aruto's name is usually written phonetically as アルト. In kanji, it's 有人 - which could be interpreted as meaning manned/occupied/piloted, or existing/possessing/having person. Thus, the in-joke of Saotome Aruto's name in kanji - "existing as a young girl".

Topics: [Other] The Assistance Of "The Man That's More Dangerous Than Reaction Weapons"
The appearance of Isamu, the protagonist of "Macross Plus", certainly surprised many fans. Although he had his favourite VF-19EF/A -which resembled the YF-19- in the movie, he regrettably destroys this same aircraft in the game "Macross 30" (pictured), and changes to the YF-29.
