Commentary
From the start of the story, an intense dogfight unfolds between Fokker's VF-0 and the SV-51 that Ivanov operates. This scene is certainly a masterpiece, which runs as an intense air battle at high speed while transforming the fully CG Valkyries, which were genuinely inserted [into Macross] from this series.
Also, the story side delves into Fokker's past with such things as the reason why Fokker, who formerly hated war, threw himself into the Unification War as a pilot; which is of great interest for the subsequent Macross history that continues through the Macross series.
In addition, although its a digression, we would like you to notice Sara's beautiful and divine bathing scene, which one could say wouldn't have been developed if it weren't for an OVA. It became the first scene in the currently established Macross history where songs exhibit paranormal powers.

Itano's direction, which has a countless number of missiles flying about at high speed, is alive and well even in this episode. In addition to the Valkyries being depicted in full CG, the Itano Circus was skillfully made in CG, which gave the circus more intensity.
