A Variable Fighter presented by Stonewell Bellcom in the VF-1 Capability Enhancement Model Development Project. Compared to the VF-1, the VF-3000 has succeeded in improving its capabilities and enhancing its equipment. Several were produced as test craft, and they were even operated by the Dancing Skull Special Forces. "Source: Macross M3".
An upgraded VF-11MAXL, which is itself a special forces exclusive Valkyrie. It is the personal aircraft of Sound Force's Mylene Flare Jīnasu. Even though the basic structure is the same as that of the VF-11, its engines have been changed to those in the VF-16, and the structure of each part has been strengthened to withstand the improved engine output. Additionally, its aerodynamic characteristics have also been improved with the upgrade from variable-sweep wings to delta wings, and its overall performance is comparable to the VF-17D. Also, the flight control system uses a bass-type Sound Stick Controller.
The VF-1 Valkyrie's actual legitimate successor. It took the main fighter seat that had been taken over by the VF-4 and VF-5000. The VF-11 is a multipurpose fighter with generally high controllability, maintainability, combat capabilities, and performance both within and outside of the atmosphere. There was plenty of room in its internal volume and loading capacity, and the VF-11 gave birth to a variety of derivative Valkyries. The B model—which had engine performance improvements and was optimized—was mass produced and deployed in a large quantity. The C model is a Valkyrie that's undergone updates to such things as its avionics. It was used as the main fighter in the 37th Super Long Range Emigrant Fleet and so on. Incidentally, like the VF-1, an exclusive armour pack was developed to compensate for the VF-11's insufficient defensive capabilities, and the Thunderbolts that it is installed on are called the "Full Armour Thunderbolt".
The exclusive Valkyries of the Jamming Birds are refit two-seater VF-11's. Since the Jamming Birds group members cannot pilot VFs, the Valkyrie is a two-seater type and a Unified Forces pilot is in the front seat as the Valkyrie's pilot.* As aerospace Super Parts equipped with a Space-time Resonance Speaker System are standard fixed equipment, due to such things as the increase in weight, the Valkyrie's aerodynamic characteristics have deteriorated. The VF-11D Kai's cruising speed and manoeuvrability are somewhat inferior to that of the VF-11C.
* Translator's note: originally was: "The VF-11D Kai is a two-seater so that a pilot boards the aircraft as the navigator, as the Jamming Birds cannot fly Valkyries."
The mass-produced version of the YF-19, which had triumphed and was selected over the YF-21 rival aircraft in "Project Supernova", the Next All-Regime Variable Fighter Development Project. As a consequence of the prototype's performance not being at a level that an average pilot can manage, the airframe structure was simplified and the VF-19 became a Valkyrie that has had its highly manoeuvrable abilities considerably restrained by exchanging the engines for ones with steadier output characteristics. In addition to the general-use F model and the commander-use S model—which has had engine improvements, and enhancements to its search communication capabilities and standard armaments—there is the P model that was loaned to Planet Zola's Patrol Corps. The P model has had its fixed armaments enhanced even more. In addition, the VF-19 also has a dedicated aerospace booster. Even though the VF-19 was expected to be successively deployed from 2045 as the main fighter replacement of the VF-11 Thunderbolt, because of problems such as the limited number of pilots who can skilfully manage it and its expensive manufacturing cost, the VF-19's large-scale mass-production plan was put off. As of 2059, the VF-19 is limited to only a very small deployment to such places as the special forces of fleets directly under the control of the Unified Forces, and Emigrant Planets and Emigrant Fleets. Incidentally, the VF-19 was operated as the dedicated Valkyries of the elite Emerald Force squadron in the Macross 7 Fleet.
The VF-19 Kai is the personal aircraft of Sound Force member Nekki Basara. As the military had its eye on the implementation of Song Energy, they revamped the VF-19 Kai—with an emphasis placed particularly on "singing"—as part of the absolutely secret "Project M" plan. The VF-19 Kai has had an acoustic system with such things as speakers and audio installed into it. The VF-19 Kai's control system is conducted with a guitar-style Sound Control Stick. In addition, it has a high-performance close to that of the YF-19, the prototype of the VF-19 Kai. The advance trial-operation of the VF-19 occurred simultaneously to the VF-19 Kai being loaned to Basara, and the data that was acquired in the periodic maintenance of the VF-19 Kai was connected to the official deployment of the VF-19 in the Macross 7 Fleet.
A Heavy Variable Fighter that was developed under the assumption that it would be deployed in the special forces. In its normal state, the VF-17 has an overall performance that greatly surpasses that of a VF-11 Thunderbolt equipped with Super Parts and various types of weapons. The VF-17 was created before active stealth was introduced. In the pursuit of stealth performance, all weapons, propellant tanks and so on were internalized, and the exterior of the fuselage has a multifaceted stealth configuration. For that reason, the VF-17's aerodynamic characteristics are greatly degraded, and it is mainly operated in GERWALK form in the atmosphere. In addition to the normal D model—which was implemented with the successful development of the engines that were planned for the A model—the two-seater T model, and the C model, there is the S model that has engines with a 10% increase in thrust and enhanced search and communications functions. In addition, there are also Super Parts that are designed to be compatible with with the VF-17's stealth performance.
The VF-17T Kai is the personal Valkyrie of Sound Force's Rei Lovelock and Vihīda Fīzu. It was remodelled based on the VF-17T two-seater trainer model. Even though the engines have a higher output as they're the same as the ones in the S model, the VF-17T's overall performance is about the same as the D model because the weight of the fuselage has also increased.* The control system has been converted into a keyboard-style Sound Stick Controller in the front seat, and a drum-style Sound Plate Controller in the rear seat, so that either seat can operate the Valkyrie.
* Translator's note: originally was "Even though its engines have a higher output as they are the same as those in the S model, its performance is approximately that of the D model, because the weight of the airframe has also been increased."
A large, twin-engined Valkyrie. Even though it is the Valkyrie that was defeated in competition with the VF-11 Thunderbolt, the VF-14 excels in its ability to fly in outer space, and it has a sturdy airframe that also has a high maintainability. In addition, because the VF-14 is a Valkyrie that's easily updated as it was designed with extra space in its internal structure, it was mass-produced in some number as it is preferred by such groups as some of the Emigrant Fleet and Emigrant Planets in the frontier regions. Also, the VF-14 was operated by the Dancing Skull Special Forces Squadron. [Source: Macross M3.]
The first Variable Fighter developed by the Unified Forces. As the development of the thermonuclear turbine engine wasn't completed in time, the VF-0 used conventional turbofan jet engines for its main engines. Only a few VF-0 were produced: the general-purpose A model, the commander-craft specification S model with an aircraft formation command system, and the two-seater D model that used a delta wing and had improved attack and electronic warfare abilities. Also, in addition to the development of the Reactive Armour, which improves the offensive and defensive capabilities when in Battroid, a Special Attack-assault Specification—which had a QF-2000 mounted on the VF-0 as a supplementary booster to augment its firepower and manoeuvrability—was deployed in the final phase of the Birdman Incident.
The Variable Fighter used by the pure Zentrādi in the Unified Forces. It is the precursor of the VF-2SS Valkyrie II, and was deployed in some of the Zentrādi squadrons.
The VF-2SS is the Unified Forces Main Variable Fighter. It is a Valkyrie that was developed from the fusion of Earth and Zentrādi technologies as the successor to the VF-XX. It is mainly operated outside of the atmosphere. The VF-2SS's space combat capabilities and mobility are improved with the SAP (Super Armed Pack) standard equipment.
A Variable Fighter developed exclusively for the atmosphere, mainly using Earth technology. It is a size larger than the VF-2SS.
A light support Variable Fighter developed by General Galaxy. As the VF-9 could be put to various uses at a relatively low cost, it was in high demand on remote Emigrant Planets. The VF-9 was also deployed in the Dancing Skull Special Forces Squadron. [Source: Macross M3].
A new-generation Variable Fighter that the Macross Frontier Fleet independently developed based on the YF-24 Evolution design. With a control system that uses ISC and EX-Gear, the VF-25 enables such things as an acceleration and high manoeuvrability that exceed the physical limits of the pilot. Other than such things as a Super Pack and an Armour Pack, all sorts of specialized optional armament equipment has been prepared for it; such as a long-range precision-shooting Sniper Pack, an electronic reconnaissance equipped AEGIS Pack, and a Fold Booster.* The VF-25 was both operated by and underwent performance evaluation testing in the Private Military Provider S.M.S. Variants were deployed, such as the highly versatile F model, the commander-oriented S model that had various enhanced functions—such as telecommunications equipment—the G model for long-range support attacks, and the search and electronic warfare specialized RVF-25.
* Translator's note: originally was "... and a Fold Pack."
A new-generation Variable Fighter designed for cyborg pilots. Like the VF-25, it was independently developed by the Macross Galaxy Fleet based on the design of the YF-24 Evolution. Since the pilot is a cyborg, in addition having an anti-G limit higher than that of a human, such things as aircraft control is performed with minimal time loss by directly connecting the cranial nerves to the aircraft. There are also extensive internal weapons, and the VF-27 has firepower comparable to a VF-25 equipped with Super Parts. Variants include a commander craft and a general craft.
The VF-22S is the Valkyrie that inherited the basic design of the YF-21, which was defeated in "Project Super Nova". It is highly valued as a special operations Valkyrie, and a few were produced as an alternative to the VF-17. It is basically piloted manually, and the BDI System is simplified and used only for support.
A multipurpose Heavy Variable Fighter that is an upgraded VF-17 Nightmare. The VF-17 was reborn into an easy-to-handle, highly-reliable Valkyrie by restraining the VF-17's engine output and changing the pilot supporting avionics to the latest versions. There are a lot of variants, such as a reconnaissance model, an electronic warfare model, and a type that commands unmanned fighter aircraft. Also, the enhanced, anti-Vajra VF-171EX Nightmare Plus EX derivative Valkyrie was developed in the Macross Frontier Fleet. It has been enhanced in various ways, and by replacing the engines and introducing such things as the EX-Gear System, the VF-171EX has performance that is better than that of the originating VF-17D model. In addition to the anti-Vajra weapon-equipped general VF-171EX, there are an Armour Pack-equipped commander craft and an AEGIS Pack-equipped RVF specification craft.
The VF-1 Valkyrie's successor. Deployment of the VF-4 progressed sequentially from 2012, and it was operated as the main fighter from 2020. The VF-4 is a Valkyrie that aimed at improved manoeuvrability in outer space in exchange for the sacrifice of atmospheric manoeuvrability. For that reason, upon the development of the VF-5000—which excels at atmospheric manoeuvrability—the VF-4 was deployed in space.
The VF-4 was developed with a focus on combat in outer space, and is replete with fixed armaments. The G model is a developed and improved model with enhanced engine output. Incidentally, Maximilian Jīnasu and Miria Farīna Jīnasu used the VF-4G in the Dancing Skull Special Forces Unit. [Source: Macross Digital Mission VF-X, Macross M3]
