A lot of publications have been published so far, such as setting materials, which are put into order to give an even deeper understanding of the Macross series; and novels and manga that introduce stories, whose depiction was cut from the original story of the anime.

The Group Of Macross Related Publications That Expand The World Of The Productions
The number of related publications that are published rises as one of the barometers that shows the popularity of an anime production. The popularity of the "Macross" series is indicated by the various kinds of publications issued from a great number of publishers, from "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross" to the most recent "Macross F". The genres of the published books is very extensive: from such things as novels, manga, and setting collections, to novels and manga that finely depict later developments and the parts that couldn't be followed in the anime. The setting collections for "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross" also developed merchandise oriented toward mecha fans, such as "Macross Perfect Memory" (publisher: Minori Bookstore), which carried almost all of the setting sketches; and the mook "Hobby Handbook" (publisher: Shogakukan), which conducted a realistic setting investigation of such things as the VFs and Destroids, using plastic models. Also, a lot of mooks that took up "Macross" productions have been published in the "This Is Animation" series. Various publications have come out from the height of the popularity of "Macross F", the most recent work, and mooks that squeezed in content about the songstresses Sheryl Nome and Lynn Minmei* have also been released.
As for manga, "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross The First", which depicts "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", and the Macross 7 side story-like production "Macross 7 Trash", both by character designer Mikimoto Haruhiko, are representative (both published by Kadokawa Bookstore). Also, novels that followed the original story of the anime were released, such as the ones for "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross", "Macross II", "Macross Dynamite 7", and "Macross F". In addition, side stories composed from Lynn Minmei's and Hayase Misa's points of view in "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross" unfolded in novels.
In addition, "Macross Ace" (publisher: Kadokawa Bookstore) has been published quarterly since 2009 as a magazine that handles the entirety of the "Macross" series. It seems that one is able to say that it is the proof that the "Macross" brand continues to rise even now, when more than 25 years have passed from the telecast of "Super Dimensional Fortress Macross".
