The Protodevilun acted by possessing humans, as they had just awoken from being sealed and lacked spiritia, and implemented the seizure of spiritia by forming an army by placing brainwashed humans under their control. This is the Varohta Forces. The Protodevilun vanguard was initially the unit that came to investigate the fourth planet of the Varohta star system. Later the members of the Varohta Forces were the brainwashed micronized Zentraadi crew of the Macross 5 Fleet.

Left: The Varohta soldiers who infiltrated City 7 The covert operatives sent in to collect spiritia and investigate City 7. As they stole the bio-energy of humans, they were called "vampires" in the city, and the citizens were afraid of them.

Related Matter: The Relationship Between Gigiru And Sybil
Among the Protodevilun, Gigiru's devotion toward Sybil also resembles that of a relationship of a man and a woman. Although it is uncertain whether or not there is a concept of gender in the Protodevilun, who were originally mental-energy bodies from a different universe, because the things that they were put into and fused with are men and women, it's guessed that a more precise awareness of their nature has sprouted in the Protodevilun. Also, as the Zentraadi genetic structure of the Protodevilun series, which became the base of Gigiru and Sybil, is approximately the same except for the sex chromosome, one could say that they are blood relatives, like a brother and sister, although that's not a certainty. It's certain that Gigiru acted to defend Sybil, and that act of helping others at the expensive of his own body seems to be something that hasn't changed in any way from the human race.
