VA-3C Kai Invader Kai
The Remodelled VA-3 Series Aircraft Used By The Galactic Whale Poaching Group.

Aircraft Description
The Unified Forces Variable Attacker (VA) has the special characteristic of both a Variable Fighter (VF) and a Destroid. The VA-3 Invader, which is a representative of that kind of aircraft, gave birth to several derivative aircraft because it has a high operability. This VA-3C Kai in particular is known as a different aircraft operated by the planet Zola's Galactic Whale Poaching Group. It is equipped with a Gun Pod, which has had a harpoon firing mechanism added to it, among other improvements matched to its purpose of being an aircraft dedicated to capturing the Galactic Whales, so that the Poaching Group can gather the energy from within the Galactic Whale's body to move spaceships. In addition, the VA-3C Kai has also inherited the archetypal aircraft's characteristics of bullet resistance and high-survivability, and it was able to fight with VFs.

Operation Record
The VA was mass produced as aircraft for ground suppression. The VA-3 series has also spread widely to Emigration Fleets and so on. This VA-3C Kai in particular is an aircraft that streamed to the black market, where it was obtained by planet Zola's Poaching Group, and is said to be an aircraft that has been remodelled. The Galactic Whales that wander in the vicinity of planet Zola's orbit are what the Poaching Group are catching, and this aircraft went poaching centred on a large mothership. The Poaching Group's scale and degree of polish are said to be equal to a military force, and they made sport of the Planet Zola Patrol Corps, who had started to obstruct the poaching.

Caption: The VA-3C Kai retained by the Poaching Group also surpassed the Patrol Corps in number, and the squadron that was in charge of managing them was pressed in a hard fight.

Standard Armaments
The Poaching Group not only captured Galactic Whales, but are also assumed to fight with such groups as the security forces. Therefore, this aircraft has both normal and whaling equipment. The former is a harpoon with a wire attached to it to catch the Galactic Whales, and a gun pod that combined with the harpoon shooting device. The latter equipment are pulse laser guns and micro-missile launchers built into both arms. Even though the archetypal VA-3's feature is being able to load a large quantity of armaments, there is no confirmation that the VA-3C Kai can make use of such things as externally mounted missiles.

Caption: The Gun Pod is in a form that looks like a spear gun, with most of the barrel consisting of the harpoon's launching mechanism. The muzzle of the Gun Pod is located in the front of the grip.

Caption: There were a lot of scenes where the Gun Pod was used in combat. Also, because there was a lot of aircraft, the Patrol Corps were often overwhelmed by the offensive power of the VA-3C Kai.

Caption: The muzzle of the pulse laser is in the center of the manipulator, and a micro-missile launcher port is installed on the outside of the forearm, and hidden by the main wing parts in Battroid form.

Attacker Mode
The Attacker Form of the VA-3 series, which corresponds to the Fighter form of a VF, is endowed with a fuselage shape close to that of a pre-Unification War ship-borne attacker (the A-6 Intruder). Also, there hasn't been a change in the basic form of this aircraft, and compared to the other variants, the shape and connection method of the pods under the main wings differ to some extent. The VA series has a design that values stability and mobility in the atmosphere, especially at low altitude. However, because the Poaching Group were mostly acting in space, its performance in this (Attacker) form was demonstrated only a few times.

Caption: Accompanying a small ship in Attacker form, they attempted to approach a pod of Galactic Whales. It is thought that the VA-3C Kai were often used in movements like this.

Caption: As the Poaching Group's VA-3C Kai were mainly operated in space, the upper part of the aircraft was equipped with a rocket booster (pictured in Battroid form).

Left: The Attacker form features the rounded form that it takes on. The engine's two motors are located in the main wing roots. In addition, on the left is the Attacker form without options installed.

Down: The VA-3C Kai is endowed with a characteristic structure with the arm unit laid out in the center of the main wing. The hatch on the side of the main wing pod is a micro-missile launcher port.

Up: The lower side of the air intakes on the right and left of the aircraft can be equipped with propellant tanks. This is when the VA-3C Kai is operated in space, and on the occasion that it plunges into the atmosphere, the propellant tanks can be dumped.

Down: The main wings only have a little bit of a backwards sweep to them, because stability is valued in the VA-3 series. Also, the aircraft features horizontal stabilizers and a vertical tail arranged on the rear section of the fuselage.

Fold Booster Equipment
The Poaching Group penetrated into planet Zola's satellite orbit via Fold Navigation, and went poaching. As the VA-3C Kai were equipped with Fold Boosters, they often accompanied the mothership.

Caption: Because the VA-3C Kai were equipped with Fold Boosters, it confirms that the Poaching Group had great capital resources.

Down: The Fold Booster is attached to the upper part of the aircraft with only one pylon.

Cockpit
Though a two-seater type exists in the VA-3 series, like the Electronic Warfare EVA-3A, the VA-3C Kai is the same as the single-seat general variation. The cockpit is located in the nose of the aircraft, and has excellent forward visibility. Although a ground offensive FCS (Fire Control System) is installed in the military use aircraft of the VA-3 series, it is unclear if the VA-3C Kai is equipped with a similar FCS.

Caption: Because the cockpit is located at the front edge of the nose in Attacker form, its rear visibility isn't good.

Caption: The cockpit hatch when in Battroid is located right under the back of the head.

Caption: The cockpit block when in Battroid is stored in the body, right under the head, and the part that corresponds to the head becomes a compound sensor.

Related Matter: The VA-3M, Which Can Be Operated In All Regimes
In the VA-3 series, the on-the-water and underwater navigating VA-3M also exists. This aircraft, which is an all-regime attack craft, in addition to being deployed as a part of such groups as the special forces, is said to have been operated by the Macross Galaxy Fleet during their voyage, as well as others, at the end of the 2050s.

Caption: The VA-3M possesses the characteristic of a flying boat in Attacker form (left), and the pod under the main wing doubles as a float with a vertical rudder. In GERWALK form (center), the rear section of the fuselage expands into the legs, and the arms transform. In battroid form (right), the structure of the arms are different from other variants of the VA-3.

Battroid Mode
The VA-3 series stresses a defensive capability in Battroid mode, as it was assumed to be for ground combat, in addition to its obvious abilities as an aircraft. The VA-3 series has adopted a transformational structure different from the VF series, where the Battroid form has a form near that of the Zentraadi battle pods. The Battroid form of the the VA-3C Kai is also similar, and it is common for the VA-3C Kai to have a compound sensor in the head unit. The Poaching Group operated it mainly in this form, and the VA-3C Kai showed that it was equal to the Patrol Corps VFs in combat.

Caption: It was possible for the VA-3C Kai to be flexible in combat in Battroid mode, as not only a Gun-pod, but also the arms have attained a wide field of fire.

Caption: The output as well as the airframe's strength and so on is also high, and even if the Adhesive Bullets of the Patrol Corps' Shock Gun-pod directly hit the VA-3C Kai, its movement weren't completely stopped.

Right: The leg part has a characteristic structure with the horizontal stabilizer projecting out of the shin, and the vertical tail folded up in three-dimensions to become the foot.

Left: The characteristic appearance of the Battroid form of the VA-3C Kai. The Poaching Group's mark has been drawn on the outer surface of the main wings, which become shields.

Down: The front and rear flaps of the inner part of the main wing fold up and become the shoulders. The joint is exposed as is at the rear of the arm.

Left: The engine block composes the chest, and it moves to the back where the sub-intakes in the main wing roots become a backpack.

Tactics Due To Coordinated Actions
The Poaching Group committed a large amount of VA-3C Kai to overwhelm the Patrol Corps, and when they captured a Galactic Whale, they used a strategy where the whales were stopped from moving by continuously launching harpoons from several aircraft at them. It's possible to say that in this way, each aircraft's coordinated actions were at a high level.

Caption: VA-3C Kai of the Poaching Group simultaneously firing their harpoons. The coordination was supported by Caliber's leadership, which also surpassed that of the Patrol Corps.
