VF-1S Strike Valkyrie
A fire-power improving specification Super Parts equipped craft that only ace pilots are permitted

Aircraft Explanation
A VF-1 that is equipped with Super Parts is generally named a "Super Valkyrie". The Super Valkyrie is the type that aims at an even greater increase in firepower by exchanging one of the Super Valkyrie's back micro-missile pods for dual beam guns. However, this equipment is limited to the commander craft VF-1S because when comparing only the Super Parts, the the operating costs have been increased. Also, one of the main reasons why this equipment came to be only for the S type is the aiming device in the head of the VF-1S has excellent compatibility with the dual beam gun. In addition, the pictured fighter craft with this colouring is the one First Lieutenant Ichijo Hikaru flew in the battle with the Bodol Main Fleet.

Operation Record
When the VF-1 Valkyrie that were deployed with the SDF-1 Macross were operated in space, they were usually equipped with Super Parts. In that situation, in almost all cases, one squadron was composed of a commander's craft VF-1S Strike Valkyrie and 3 Super Valkyries. Also, the Strike Valkyrie, which has great offensive abilities, is said to have been put into special operations. The craft that First Lieutenant Ichijo Hikaru piloted is especially known for singlehandedly rushing into the center of the enemy's flagship in the battle with the Bodol Main Fleet, which resulted in the destruction of Gol Bodolza.

Caption: Ichijo Hikaru inherited Roy Fokker's call sign "Skull 1", and participated in the final decisive battle with the Bodol Main Fleet.

Caption: Following the SDF-1 in the penetration into the interior of the Mobile Fortress Gol Bodolza, the lone Strike Valkyrie rushed into the deepest part of the fortress.

Additional Equipment
The Strike Valkyrie exchanged the Super Valkyrie's right back booster unit's missile launcher for a dual beam gun. Other than that, there were no other changes to the Super Valkyrie, such as the GU-11 Gatling Gun Pod and Head Laser Machinegun, which are identical to the standard equipment of the VF-1.

Caption: The Strike Valkyrie was loaded with reaction missiles in the battle with the Bodol Main Fleet. Ichijo Hikaru's craft sunk Zentraadi vessels with them.

Maurer RÖ-X24 Dual Beam Gun
The right booster of the Super Parts is equipped with a Dual High-Output Beam Gun. It is furnished with a compound sensor in the base and there are cooling gas exhaust ports in the rear. The beam originates in chemical reaction energy created from diverted propulsion fuel.

NP-AR-01 Arm Additional Armour Micro-Missile Launchers The arms are equipped with armour units that have a micro-missile launcher (2x3 missiles loaded) built into them.

HMMP-02 Micro-Missile Launchers
The left booster is equipped with a micro-missile launcher (HMMP-02), the same as the Super Valkyrie. There are 4 firing ports on the left and right of the front of the launcher.

UUM-7 Micro-missile Pods Bifors HMM-01
There were many cases where one of the under-wing hard-points on the right and left wings was equipped with a micro-missile pod (2 sets of 5 missiles loaded forward, + 5 missiles loaded rearward).

Fighter Mode
The Strike Valkyrie's fighter form exhibits a great manoeuvrability in space due to the top large boosters (NP-BP-01) and leg conformal tanks/high-manoeuvrability thrusters (CTB-04). Although it possesses a performance that's equal to the Super Valkyrie, it's said that the Strike Valkyrie exhibited a higher performance in actual combat as it was a specification intended for veteran pilots.

Caption: The interior of the Mobile Fortress that Ichijo's craft rushed into was exceedingly vast, and he freely displayed the Strike Valkyrie's great thrust.

Caption: Ichijo's craft makes the best use of the fighter mode's performance, which excels at manoeuvrability, and aimed at the center of the Mobile Fortress, he penetrated the fortress with gunfire flying about.

Up: A parked Strike Valkyrie. The typical fully-equipped state has micro-missile pods and large missiles loaded onto the under-wing hard-points.

Left: The Strike Valkyrie features a left-right asymmetrical appearance, due to being equipped with the dual beam gun. The tail planes are folded up in order to mount the boosters and arm armour units.

Up: The Super Part boosters manifest an enormous propulsive power with large chemical fuel type rockets. Also, several high-manoeuvrability verniers are installed in the leg units.

Up: The Gun Pod is mounted on the underside of the arm units when in fighter form. The skull marking is the Skull squadron's unit insignia, and the "001" on the nose denotes that unit's number 1 craft.

Right: The chart on the right shows the inner structure of the fuselage and each module. Also, the inner structure of such things as the gun pod, missile pods and missiles are clarified.

GERWALK Mode
Due to the great thrust of a Super Parts equipped VF-1, it's difficult to control the aircraft during moments of high manoeuvrability, and the position of the leg engines were often varied for such things as sudden changes of course. The Strike Valkyrie was originally required to operate in space, just like the Super Valkyrie, and as the GERWALK form has a relatively low operational value as it is a form appropriate for environments under gravity, the extent of it's use in space was for manoeuvrer control and so on. However, the GERWALK form was often used in tactics where rapid braking is turned into an attack.

Caption: As the weight of the aircraft has increased due to being equipped with Super Parts, the Strike Valkyrie's GERWALK form is considered to be not as suited for operations under gravity to the extent that the normally equipped VF-1's GERWALK form is.

Caption: In combat that intersected with enemy groups, there are many cases where immediately following a missile volley, the Strike Valkyrie performed rapid controls in GERWALK, matched the enemy craft's relatively velocity and moved to intercept.

Caption: Ichijo's craft, which rushed into the Mobile Fortress, skillfully used GERWALK in a narrow passageway to avoid anti-aircraft fire.

Battroid Mode
It's possible to transform the Strike Valkyrie into GERWALK and Battroid forms even when equipped with the Super Parts, as they don't obstruct the transformation mechanisms. The Battroid form was especially used, mainly for such things as hand-to-hand combat with enemy battle-suits. As it was possible to use the dual beam guns even in Battroid form, the Strike Valkyrie exhibited offensive capabilities higher than that of the Super Valkyrie. However, in relation to it's combat endurance time, the Strike Valkyrie is said to have been difficult to operate effectively if one wasn't a veteran pilot, as the dual beam gun used the propellant that was for the high-manoeuvrability verniers.

Caption: The SDF-1, which rushed into the enemy Mobile Fortress, advanced into the interior at low speed, and the accompanying Ichijo's craft was in charge of defending the vicinity of the bridge in Battroid.

Caption: Hikaru's craft saluting the bridge just before rushing into the center of the fortress. It is possible to surmise his abilities, which were forged in actual combat, from the point Ichijo was entrusted with the solo mission.

Caption: Ichijo Hikaru's lone craft accomplished the great achievement of destroying Gol Bodolza. He became the pilot who contributed a great deal to ending the Anti-Bodolza War.

Left: The unit insignia is also drawn on the cockpit armour. Also, the dual beam gun is constructed to move approximately 90, and its field of fire is maintained even when in Battroid.

Caption: When Ichijo's craft attacked Bodolza, he simultaneously fired all of the Strike Valkyrie's armaments in Battroid form, and the concentrated fire power succeeded in destroying Bodolza .

Head
The VF-1S's head unit features an oblong goggle-shaped composite sensor, and a radar sensor dome is built-into the part that corresponds to the lower half of a "face".

Up: The form of the back has changed greatly due to the installed Super Parts. In addition, the Strike Valkyrie moves by using the the back boosters and leg engines together.

Related Matter: The Craft that Ace's Rode In - the Strike Valkyrie
Many top-class pilots piloted the Super Valkyrie, which was operated as a commander's craft, and they bequeathed great military achievements. Besides Ichijo Hikaru's craft, Roy Fokker's craft is especially known.

Caption: Fokker, who was active as Skull Squadron's commanding officer, has tales of heroism where he battled while intoxicated with alcohol, and shot down enemy craft.

For Roy Fokker
The colouring of Fokker's craft had a yellow chest line and the Skull Squadron unit mark on the boosters were black.

Caption: Just like in fighter form, Battroid form also demonstrated a great fighting strength. The Strike Valkyrie adapted itself to the requirements of the moment with such things as purging the super parts, such as when Fokker infiltrated the enemy ship.
