VB-6 Konig Monster
The Variable Bomber that inherited the design of the Destroid Monster.

Caption: Although marks that imitate "eyes" and a shark mouth are usually painted on the nose, when Ranka boarded the VB-6, it was given nose art that used her as its motif.

Aircraft Explanation:
The VB-6 Konig Monster is representative of the Variable Bomber developed along the specification requirement of "a Destroid Monster that flies, and is able to rapidly deploy itself". ?This aircraft, which takes over the Destroid Monster concept; has a mechanism that transforms it into Shuttle, Heavy GERWALK and Destroid modes; and is equipped with a 4-barrel Rail Gun and 3-barrel Heavy Missile Launcher heavy armaments; possesses an offensive power that far surpasses that of the Variable Fighters (VF) and Variable Attackers (VA). In addition, the S.M.S. stationed in the Macross Frontier Fleet operates a Konig Monster that's been changed from the original specifications - the pictures referred to here are all for the S.M.S. specification Konig Monster.

Operation Record
The VB-6, whose development started in 2030, was advanced at first by a combined design team of Northrom and Grumman. Afterwards, with Shinnakasu, who were in charge of the design of the HWR-00-MkII, and obtaining the collaboration of Dr. Konig Tiegel, who was the design chief at that time, they successfully solved the various problems with the deterioration of the fuselage strength that accompanied the installation of the variable mechanism into the aircraft. In 2032, the mass production prototype had its maiden flight, and production started. Many completed aircraft were deployed to special forces and so on; and in 2040, 3 VB-6 (1 was a spare aircraft for parts) were delivered to S.M.S. in the Macross Frontier Fleet. By 2059, the VB-6 belonging to S.M.S. had had various upgrades, had participated actively on the front lines, and in addition to combat missions, was also performing such things as asteroid and space dust blast removal work.

Caption: There were many cases of S.M.S. getting such VFs as the VF-25 Messiah to escort the VB-6, and using the VB-6 for such things as assault strikes and support.

Caption: The VB-6 became the aircraft that Ranka rode in the "Ranka Attack", which was an attack on the Vajra that used Ranka's songs.

Armaments
The armaments of the VB-6 consist of a 4-barrel 320 mm Rail Gun, two 3-barrel heavy missile launchers in the arms, one anti-air anti-ground machine-gun turret, and two anti-air anti-ground close-range small high-manoeuvrability missile launchers. ?The armaments are an expansion when compared to the pattern HWR-00-MkII.

Left: 4-barrel 320 mm Rail-gun The rail-gun is capable of precision fire to a range of more than 100 km with self-guided shells. Reaction weapons can also be used.

Left: 3-barrel Heavy Missile Launcher Although anti-ground anti-ship missiles are usually loaded, such things as multi-warhead, reaction weapon missiles can also be launched.

Right: Anti-air anti-ground Machine-Gun Turret When in shuttle form, it becomes semi-fixed in the nose part, and when in the other two modes, it is used for close-in protection.

Cockpit
As 3 crew are needed in the HWR-00-MkII, the VB-6 is also controlled by 3 people: a pilot and 2 bombing and bombardment officers. ?However, it is possible for a single pilot to operate the VB-6 using EX-Gear, if they're a pilot with piloting skills as great as S.M.S.'s Major Canary Berstein.

Caption: The front seat is the main pilot seat, so when the VB-6 is operated as a single-seated craft, the rear seats are not used.

The seat has been refurbished to a type that supports EX-Gear, which is technology reproduced from the VF-25 that enables the VB-6 to be operated as a single-seat aircraft.

Shuttle Mode
The shuttle form, which corresponds to the fighter form of the VF, VA and so on, possesses a high flight performance from its lifting-body structure. Even though it had been rough going getting that giant aircraft to fly by itself before being miniaturized, the problem was solved by Dr. Konig's idea to also use the super-electromagnetic catapult in the rail guns as plasma rockets. The plasma rockets are only used for emergency landing, high acceleration and so on, and the VB-6's thrust is usually obtained from four thermonuclear turbine engines. Also, by lightening the aircraft by changing the armour material, the S.M.S. specification craft have had an improvement in mobility as well as a small increase in atmospheric speed.

Caption: Even though the VB-6 acquired high acceleration ability with new mechanisms, its mobility was low for a fuselage size more than twice that of a normal VF.

Caption: Heavy armour is applied over the entire airframe, and the VB-6 doesn't suffer damage from an anti-air machine gun grade weapon.

Caption: When Ranka Lee boarded the VB-6 for the "Ranka Attack", the VB-6 was mainly in shuttle form positioned at the rear of the front.

It features a look like the former world's Space Shuttle, with high-manoeuvrability verniers in the nose faring, and the legs functioning as flight control surfaces.

Down: Shuttle Mode/ Back*
The composite electromagnetic plasma rocket engine and rail-gun system has for nozzles in the rear section of the fuselage, and it functions as a thrust system only in shuttle form.

The flat shape which forms a lifting body in the underside of the fuselage is located in the rear upper armour and covers the base of the rail-gun when in Heavy GERWALK form.

. Heavy GERWALK Mode

The Heavy GERWALK form, which inherited the HWR-00-MkII's form, can demonstrate the VB-6's offensive capabilities to the maximum from the points where it becomes possible to use all of its armaments and that the recoil when firing is suppressed by fixing the airframe [to a position] with the legs. However, this aircraft has a limit to the number of shots it is loaded with, because all of the armaments are solid shells, and it has uneasinesses in its ability to continue to fight.

Also, compared to other models, the VB-6 has an overwhelmingly high ability to be loaded with equipment, and Fold Wave Amplification Devices and Fold Wave Analysis Devices were also loaded into the bombshell magazine of Canary's aircraft in S.M.S..

Caption: In the Galaxy Fleet rescue operation, the VB-6 lands on the deck of the remaining Darufimu warship, and the rail-gun is fired against the Vajra group.

Caption: Although Heavy GERWALK is the form originally assumed to operate on the ground, there were cases where it was also used in space.

Caption: In the fight at the Vajra Homeworld, the VB-6 made an emergency landing on the Battle Galaxy's Gunship, and even though its left leg had been destroyed, it then destroyed the Battle Galaxy's bridge with the rail-gun.

Arranged in the rear section of the fuselage are the rail-gun's ammunition supply and the dozer-blade shaped movable armour. The latter contacts the ground when shooting in Heavy GERWALK and is used as a supporting leg that suppresses recoil.

Though the differences can be seen in the details, the form and the airframe structure follow that of the Destroid Monster. ?Accompanying the miniaturization of the entire airframe, the barrel of the rail-gun has shortened more than that of the model Destroid.

The reverse jointed structure of the legs have movable toes when walking, and are transformed and compose the main wing when in Shuttle Form. A high-speed hovering movement with the leg engine is also possible.

Destroid Mode

The Destroid form is the mode that corresponds to the Battroid form of a VF, and the transformation to human form has drastically improved the VB-6's close-combat abilities. In addition, the same form has the characteristic point of being able to do hand-to-hand combat by using the newly created power arms.

The aircraft deployed by S.M.S. have had their avionics and sensors updated to the latest ones, and they surpass the operability of the normal mass-produced VB-6. ?Additionally, they have acquired a bullet resistance greater than the mass-produced craft because their armour has been changed to the same type as the VF-25's Armour Pack's energy conversion armour and light-composite armour, and a pinpoint barrier system has also been installed.

When in Destroid form, the nose faring moves to the pelvic region. Also, to expand the power arms, the arms are turned upside down to their orientation in Heavy GERWALK.

Caption: After the left arm is destroyed in the fight at the Vajra Homeworld, the VB-6 transforms to Destroid, and continues fighting, proving the height of the VB-6's durability.

Up: Destroid mode/the Front*

The arms expand and extend more than in Heavy GERWALK, and the entire rail cannon unit moves to the back. ?The head unit is exposed when it transforms to Destroid. In addition, all of the armaments can also be used in this form.

Up: Destroid mode/the Back*

The rail-gun unit, which is located on the back, can also be fired in Destroid mode. Posture control is carried out by using the leg thrusters when firing the rail-gun in this form.
