[o] VF-171 EX (General Craft)
[o] Aircraft Explanation
Even though the VF-171EX (General Craft) is given only the name "General Craft", there are no differences in performance between it and the squadron leader aircraft that Saotome Aruto boarded. While the VF's traditionally produced "squadron leader aircraft" were easily grasped from the outward appearance, such as having a lot of laser machine-guns on the head, the VF-171EX doesn't have a shape difference between the general aircraft and the squadron leader aircraft (nevertheless, in Saotome Aruto's case, the aircraft was painted a personal colour, and a difference seems to have been produced). It seems that the lack of difference was because there was a pressing need to have a complete set of this aircraft, and there wasn't time to prepare detailed variant aircraft. The VF-171EX was deployed giving priority to the people who skillfully handled the VF-171 in the New Unified Forces pilots attached to the Frontier Fleet, and as such, it bequeathed great military gains in combat.
Caption: The VF-171EX was operated as the main VF of the attacking forces in the battle of the Vajra Homeworld, and it demonstrated its anti-Vajra combat abilities.
Caption: The MDE Heavy Quantum Reaction Gun can be used as a carried armament.* It takes the place of the Gun Pod, and demonstrated an excellent offensive ability as a main weapon (the VF-171EX is also equipped with a normal Gun Pod in the leg).

Cockpit
This aircraft, which was placed with the main point of "generally speaking, aircraft performance that is able to fight on par with the Vajra" with the improvement of performance being foremost, was clearly also a difficult aircraft for even veterans to handle at the stage when the improvement plan was presented. Thereupon, for the first time in the officially adopted aircraft of the Unified Forces, an EX-Gear System became standard equipment. The introduction of the EX-Gear System, which abates the burdens on the body and enables intuitive control, was a last resort that seems to have somehow held down what looks like the difficult handling that was produced by the aircraft improvements. On the other hand, there is data that says that the adoption of that system was able to shorten the training period of new recruits by up to 30% over training periods up until then.*
* Translator's note: originally was: "The VF-171EX was the first New Unified Forces VF to use the EX-Gear control system as standard equipment. Due to the improvement, accompanying the mitigation of the VF-171's difficult handling, there was an improvement in performance. Also, in the adoption of this system, there's data that the VF-171EX's training period was shortened by up to 30%."
Caption: The interior of the VF-171EX's cockpit. The structure is simple, and one can confirm that part of the EX-Gear has transformed into the seat.
[o] Caption: The installation of the EX-Gear System, which is also an excellent escape mechanism, is said to have led to an improvement in pilot survivability.
[o] Fighter Mode
Excluding the colouring, although this aircraft's exterior hasn't changed from the VF-171 Nightmare Plus -which is the origin of the improvements-, its silhouetting was greatly changed due to the Anti Vajra Combat Standard Armament Pack -which was standard equipment- being set on the left and right of the aircraft.

GERWALK Mode
The GERWALK form of the General Craft. The GERWALK mode also isn't changed from the appearance of the model aircraft. The transformation to GERWALK takes place with the MDE Heavy Quantum Reaction Gun and Armoured Missile Canister as-is on the arms.*
* Translator's note: originally was: "Caption: General aircraft A General Craft in GERWALK form. Transforming to GERWALK, the MDE Particle Anti-Gravity Gun and Armoured Missile Canister are left as-is as they were in Fighter form, attached to the arms."
Right: In combat, the GERWALK form was used for such things as manoeuvre changes during ground and air combat.
Battroid Mode
In Battroid form, the left arm Armoured Missile Canister functions as a strong shield by being used together with the Pinpoint Barrier. The installation of the EX-Gear System, which enabled intuitive control, is assumed to have led to an improvement in hand-to-hand combat responses in Battroid form.*

RVF-171EX
[o] Aircraft Explanation
The VF-171EX, whose appearance doesn't change from that of the VF-171, was able to be equipped with the VF-171's Electronic Warfare Aegis Pack (AP-SF-01+), without having to remodel it. Missions patrolling the surrounding sectors were vital against the elusive Vajra, and the deployment of the thrust improved model VF-171EX is said to have been rather welcomed by the patrol units. Although the Anti-Vajra Combat Standard Armament Pack restricts all sorts of missiles under the main wings when equipped with the Aegis Pack, it doesn't appear to have been a problem in particular when this aircraft was deployed, as many patrol units were thoroughly notified and appear to have avoided combat with the Vajra.
The RVF-171EX on the right (Luca Angeloni's craft) was equipped with even more Ghost guidance systems on an RVF-171EX, and became an aircraft with a special specification. These Ghosts seem to be the QF-4000 that Luca Angeloni used in S.M.S., continuing to be used in the Unified Forces. The Ghosts were used for such things as reconnaissance-in-force at the Vajra Homeworld. In addition, the RVF-171EX Luca craft had a green line added to various places on the fuselage -as it is Luca Angeloni's personal colour.
[o] Caption: RVF-171EX being equipped with MDE Weapons in preparation for the final decisive battle. When the aircraft lands, the very long radar panel on the underside of the fuselage folds up, as shown in the picture.*
*Translator's note: the image has been changed to a slightly different one that more clearly depicts an RVF-171EX getting Dimension Cutters installed on the wings.
[o] Caption: The Ghosts that Luca operates capitalized on their advantage of being autonomous model unmanned fighter aircraft, and they were also used to scout out the Vajra Homeworld, which was the setting of the final decisive battle.
[o] Fighter Form

[o] GERWALK Mode
The GERWALK form of the RVF-171EX. The large radar panel on the underside of the fuselage moves to the rear of the fuselage. It capitalizes on the merits of tight turns, and was used in reconnaissance-in-force missions.
Down: The large radar panel on the underside of the fuselage can be unfolded toward the front even in this form.*
*Translator's note: originally was: "Caption: Luca's Craft An RVF-171EX carrying a Howard GU-14B Kai, which is a type of Gun Pod that supports MDE warheads. The arrangement of the upper dome and lower radar panel are the same as when it's in Fighter form."
[o] Battroid Mode
It was possible for the RVF-171EX to transform to Battroid even when equipped with the Aegis Pack. As the main armament is a Howard GU-14B Kai with normal warheads, the RVF-171EX didn't have the firepower to fight against the Vajra.
Right: The Aegis Pack sensor systems all change into a form where they are mounted on the back.*
