Related Matter: The VF-X-10 Prototype
The VF-X-10 is what one can think of as being the prototype of the VF-9. Although it is deemed to be a non-transforming type for flight tests, the features of the VF-9's Fighter form were already established at this point in time, such as the forward-swept wings, canards, and a spacious canopy area. The VF-X-10's unique mechanism was the instillation of rotating air intakes to prevent foreign bodies being sucked in. However, the rotating air intakes weren't used in the mass production aircraft.
