VF-1J: The Red and Blue of the Ace Pilots' Crafts that Sprinted Ahead on the Battlefield

Aircraft Explanation
Although the colour of the general J model craft is a light brown, just like the A model, characteristic colours are applied to some of the ace pilots' crafts. Even among those, the genius Max's blue craft and the originally Zentraadi ace Miria's red craft especially won fame as the combination that raised up many successes in battle. Explained here are the activities of both craft.

Aircraft Explanation
Shinakasu Heavy Industry's J model has a high construction precision and steady quality, with few differences in the performance of each aircraft made. It was often given to superior pilots of squadron leader and higher class.* Maximilian "Max" Jiinasu, who had a prodigious talent for controlling VFs, rode in one of the later period VF-1J models, and it was painted blue, his personal colour.

* Translator's note: the first two lines replaced the following in the original: "Although Shinakasu Heavy Industry's mass-produced J model was also produced as a later period J model with greatly tuned-up electronics and engines, because there were absolutely only a few produced, it's acknowledged that they were limited to the small fraction of pilots that received them."

Operation Record
The Max craft was deployed to the carrier Prometheus after the Macross returned to Earth. Max operated it from around the time that he became a squadron leader, and by participating in the "Lynn Minmei Operation", he increased the number of successes in that battle. Also, it's said that he was active with Miria as a 2 craft commando unit even in the conflicts after the First Interstellar War.

Related Matter: The Fuss About Personal Colours
Soon after falling in love, Max and Miria suddenly and unexpectedly had an interstellar marriage. The two-seater VF-1D that they flew down the bridal aisle was painted blue. One can say that by appearing in the wedding ceremony in an aircraft that was painted in a personal colour, pilots are obsessed about the VF they ride.

Aircraft Explanation
In the decisive battle with the Bodoru Main Fleet, Mira Farina Jiinasu's personal craft was deployed to the carrier Prometheus together with Max's craft.* "Ace Miria" had a reputation of being selfish in the Zentraadi Forces, which also applied to her abilities. Her aircraft, which was painted deep crimson, was a later J model, just like Max's craft.

Translator's note: the original was: "After the Macross returns to Earth, Miria Farina Jiinasu's personal craft was deployed to the carrier Prometheus together with Max's craft."

Operation Record
After surrendering, Miria, who was micronized and had become a Unified Forces pilot, piloted the Miria craft. Also participating in such battles as the "Lynn Minmei Operation" and the conflicts after the First Interstellar War with Max in the "Prodigal Combination", the craft achieved many successes in battle. Incidentally, in the conflicts, it's said that there's a case where Miria sortied carrying her beloved daughter Komiria in her VF-1J, in order to persuade the remaining Zentraadi soldiers who they repeatedly battled.

Related Matter: Operated 30 Years Later
Miria, who continued to own her favourite airplane even after retiring from the armed forces, also took this craft along in the core of Macross 7, the 37th Super Long Range Emigrant Fleet, which departed in 2038. There's a record that Miria herself sortied in this craft in the battles with the Varohta Forces. In addition to the passage of 30 years since the deep crimson craft's roll-out, it became a rare craft that had experienced combat with the new enemy.

Caption: "7" Miria's craft was invested into combat once more after 30 years. After Miria and Mylene piloted it, it was seriously damaged while Gamlin Kizaki was piloting it.
