Airframe Explanation
The MBR-04-MkVI Tomahawk is the Destroid that represents the 04 Series, which achieved the most success in the "Destroid" armament group - that put Over Technology (OTM) to practical use. The abbreviation of the model number, MBR (Main Battle Robot), indicates that this craft was developed as a humanoid walking weapon that takes the place of the main battle tank. The great firepower and heavy armour of the Tomahawk's design puts importance on bombardment combat. Even thought the Tomahawk has inferior anti-aircraft abilities, it is endowed with diverse armaments that are not inferior to the Destroids that started being designed later. The Tomahawk boasts the most-balanced firepower in the Destroid series. On the other hand, it is unfit for hand-to-hand combat because both arms were converted into fixed armaments, and it demonstrated its real worth by cooperating with the other Destroid models. This Destroid is operated as the core of the land warfare force that forms a counterpart to the Variable Fighters (VF), and the Tomahawk left large military gains in the battles with the Zentraadi Forces in the First Interstellar War.

Operation Record
The prototype of the MBR-04-MkVI started development in a Destroid called the Type 04 (MBR-04), after the trial manufacturing from the Type 01 to the Type 03 had elapsed. Designing began in May 2002, and in the following year, in December 2003, it shifted over to the prototype. In February 2007, the initial model of the Type 04, which was equivalent to the MkI, was completed, and the flow of development advanced to the roll-out of the MkVI, namely this craft, in November of the same year. Also, because there was room in the airframe design of the Type 04, variant models were concurrently developed (these became the prototypes of the series of models that are called the 04 Series). On the other hand, both the the MKIV, which had a favourable outcome as a result of its manoeuvres, as well as the output-enhanced MkVI model switched over to mass production. A considerable number were deployed to the SDF-1 Macross at the time of its space-launch, and one theory states that 440 were loaded aboard the SDF-1. Furthermore, in the SDF-1, they were deployed for such things as performing interception on the surface of the SDF-1, and they were often operated as a cost-saving battle strength.

Caption: After the conclusion of the First Interstellar War, the Tomahawk was deployed to such places as city outskirts, and they also engaged in the preservation of public order. They were mobilized when Zentraadi made trouble.

Related Matter: The Transition of the MBR-04
Until the completion of the MBR-04-MkVI, which became the first practical Destroid model, truly more than 7 years time was required, and several prototypes were manufactured. The Destroid Cheyenne is one of those prototypes, and in the closing years of the Unification War, the Cheyenne was trial mass produced and invested into the operation to seize the alien relic.

Right: Cheyenne
As the Destroid from the earliest period, it was deployed on the aircraft carrier Asuka. Common features can be seen in such places as the shape of head, and the arms, which have been turned into fixed armaments.

Left: MBR-04-MkIV
The MBR-04-MkIV on the left is the Destroid that seems to have been operated before the deployment of the MkVI. Even though such things as the position of the optional equipment and the shape of the arm beam guns differ, its parts can be thought of as being shared with the MkVI.

Hull Structure 1
The design and development of the Type 04 that became the base of the MBR-04-MkVI was handled jointly by two companies: Vigars and Crawler. The greatness of the MBR-04's capacity is cited as one of its structural features. In contrast to the VFs, which don't have room in their structures, as they had to have both the transformation mechanisms and a general-purposefulness, there is plenty of room that performs some process within the hull structure of the Type 04. That is linked to the possibilities of such things as the design and quantity of armaments installed, and it promoted the development of the Type 04 variations. This Destroid is an example that makes the best use of such a feature in the direction of heaviness, and it came to acquire a firepower and bullet-resistance that symbolized the Destroids.

Caption: One could say that because there was surplus internal space within the airframe that the Tomahawk was able to be equipped with complicated internal firearms, like the gun cluster.

Caption: The enhancement of bullet resistance was stressed in the design. However, the Tomahawk wasn't endowed with an armour strength that could endure a direct hit from the guns of a Zentraadi mobile weapon.

Left: The armaments are concentrated in the upper half of the body, and one can understand that the body units of the Type 04 have an ability to be equipped with a great amount of equipment. Because of that feature, they were able to implement the Tomahawk's great firepower.

Right: The hemisphere on the left side of the back is a coolant tank. Compared to the other Type 04 series craft, it is possible to guess from the projections in the back that the Tomahawk has enlarged systems along with its built-in firearms.

Armament
Even though the MBR-04 was a simple Destroid at the time of the Mk I, which had only the rocket launchers as a fixed armament, it attained a specification that is equipped with various armaments as a result of the attempts to increase its firepower. Even though one of the disadvantages of the design that turned both arms into beam guns is a degradation of the MBR-04's hand-to-hand fighting abilities, the beam guns were used because results in manoeuvres showed that the MBR-04 was able to annihilate the enemy before it drew near. (It's said that in live-fire exercises that took place in the Mohabi Desert immediately before roll-out, the MBR-04 annihilated 10-odd unmanned tanks in an instant.) The fact is that this Destroids boasts of an extremely high offensive ability, and in medium-range bombardment battles, the MBR-04 demonstrates a performance that surpasses that the other Destroids, VFs, and so on.

Caption: The Tomahawk played a major role when they carried out a simultaneous volley immediately after the Daedalus broke into the Zentraadi ship in the Daedalus Attack. The Tomahawk greatly contributed to the tactic as the SDF-1's trump card with the greatness of its firepower.

Caption: Even though its original operational method was bombardment attacks in gravity, there was little chance to do that when the Tomahawk was placed on the SDF-1. One could say that the battle at Mars Sara Base was a rare case.

Ericon Rapid Fire Anti-Aircraft Self-Guided 6-missile Option Pack
The right shoulder is equipped with a long-range anti-air missile pack. It is optional equipment and the back of the unit is a loading hatch. Even though it is an anti-aircraft armament, it isn't able to make up for the Tomahawk's weaknesses.

Mauler PBG-11 Liquid-Cooled Charged Particle Beam Gun
The entirety of the forearms are charged particle beam guns, which are the Tomahawk's main armament, and there is a targeting TV eye in the base of the guns. Both arms can be aimed independently, and it's possible to aim each of them at different targets.

Hull Structure 2
The MBR-04-MkVI uses both a thermonuclear reactor and a fuel dynamo for motive force, and its maximum speed reaches as high as 180 kmph. It can also do jump movements with two thrust nozzles that are installed in the lower region of the back. Also, there are radiators installed in the left and right hips with exhaust ports in the rear, and as such things as lights are installed in every part of the airframe, specifications that presumed it is going to be operated on the ground can be seen everywhere.

Caption: Originally the Tomahawk was a Destroid whose purpose was to be operated on land. There are also cases where it fought enemy mobile weapons that had penetrated into the SDF-1. However, it is difficult to say that the Tomahawk made the best use of its abilities during those battles.

Ramington M-89 12.7 mm Air-Cooled Machine-Gun

Two anti-personnel 12.7 mm machine-guns are built-into the head. Even though a telescope has been built into the back of the head, the gun barrels have hardly any range of movement, and they don't go beyond the limits of being an auxiliary weapon.

Bifors Rapid-Fire Close-Range Self-Guided 12-shot Rocket Launcher
The chest weapon bay is equipped with a close-range rocket launcher. Also, as the weapon bay is fixed to a locking arm, it's also possible to detach it.

ASTRA TZ-III Gun Cluster
A composite gun system that combines a laser gun, a 25 mm machine-gun, a 180 mm grenade launcher, and a flamethrower. When used, the gun barrels protrude foreward.

Internal Construction
The main frame from the waist to the leg is used as a common module for each Type 04 model in the series. Included within this module are the thermonuclear reactor and the drive-system's ambulatory system; and it consolidates the OTM that has been put into the Destroids. Also, the integration of their productions lines was aimed for with this commonness, and an improvement in productivity and serviceability was achieved by it. In addition, this inner structure also contributed to the rapid development of the Destroid variations.

Caption: Above is the Type 04 internal module with the armour removed. Even though each models' characteristic mechanisms might be added to the outside of the airframe, below the knees, the same structure, including the armour, was used in all of the Destroids in the series.

Cockpit
The MBR-04-MkVI is operated by two crew, and the cockpit is located at the front of the body. In addition to functioning as the hatch, the head is constructed to open and close by sliding forward. In addition, it is also possible to separate the cockpit block from the body, and it is thought that in an emergency, only the cockpit block was recovered. Furthermore, the head is equipped with two camera-eyes, and the upper one moves along a slit. The polarized-light shield that covers the lower camera eye is red in the experimental type and the early mass-production type, and is green in the mass-produced type. It is said that the wavelength of the reflected light (the colour) was different.

Left: The area of the cockpit, with the hatch open, is seen from above, on the left. One of the seats can be confirmed in it. When the pilot gets in and out of the Destroid, the seat is constructed to be pushed up, and is exposed outside of the vehicle.

Caption: The pilot boards the Destroid via the hangar's gangway. Also, there are scenes when they weren't in combat where the other pilot directs the Tomahawk while leaning out from the hatch.
