Related Matter: The Differences In Each VF-1 Type
Even though the S model of the VF-1 is acknowledged as a high-performance improved craft that's had its head and engines exchanged for higher performance ones, it's said that the actual circumstances differ. Based on the quality standard of the airframe that was rolled out, the talk that there are VF-1 type divisions for such things as the S and A models was whispered between the engineers on hand at the time as "a rumour that's close to the truth". However, there is a possibility of confusion that with the episode where the VF-0 was classified into the S and A models according to its material quality; so an investigation from now is awaited for.

The improved A model, which was identified as having a firepower deficiency. It uses a Kyusei Heavy Industry head unit that is loaded with two Laser Machine-guns.
