The Nature Regeneration Project:
The regeneration of the global environment by science and technology.
At the end of the First Interstellar War, the Earth's environment was devastated by the Bodoru Main Fleet's orbital bombardment. In response to the situation, the New Unified Government and the Unified Forces pushed forward the "Nature Regeneration Project" after the war as a global environment and ecosystem restoration project. The essence of the Nature Restoration Plan was to regenerate the environment and ecosystems through science and technology, applying terraforming technology that was for other planets. The plan was conducted by scientists who survived the First Interstellar War, and was carried out as an extremely large-scale project on a global scale, using various kinds of OTM and most of the supplies left over after the war.
The orbital bombardment of the Bodoru Main Fleet caused not only the destruction of the ecosystem, but also partial contamination by radiation and a massive evaporation of seawater. The evaporation of the oceans in particular caused environmental changes in the form of high humidity and an increase in the average global temperature to 21°C (31°C in the equatorial regions). In addition, there was also an increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide and a decrease in oxygen in the atmosphere. As a result of rapid planning to remedy these conditions, the environment was greatly improved, and natural regeneration is purported to have started in some areas.

Related Matter: The Reorganization Of The Unified Forces
Like the global environment, the Unified Forces suffered tremendous damage during the First Interstellar War. Therefore, in order to deal with the emergence of a new Main Fleet and the dissatisfied Zentrādi, the reorganization of the Unified Forces got underway, and new VFs and new types of naval vessels were developed and built. The reorganized Unified Forces later became indispensable presence in such things as escorting the Long- and Short-range Emigrant Fleets.

A new VF developed as the successor to the VF-1. Designed to improve upon such things as manoeuvrability and operational time in space combat, the VF-4 was used by Megaroad-01 Fleet and others.

The Earth After The Battle With The Bodoru Main Fleet And The Nature Regeneration Project
The large-scale combat between humankind and the Zentrādi ended due to the battle with the Bodoru Main Fleet on Feb. 11, 2010, however it did not bring peace to the Earth. The end of the First Interstellar War had to wait until the end of the ground war against the remnants of the Bodoru Main Fleet. In addition, tensions continued to mount, with such things as the continuing patrols of the Solar System—with Apollo Base playing a central role—to watch out for such things as the remaining ships of the main fleet that had withdrawn. Under these circumstances, and on an Earth devastated by the Bodoru Main Fleet's orbital bombardment, the remaining millions (some say tens of millions) of Earthlings and the Zentrādi were forced to survive.
After the end of the war, they had a go at reorganizing the political machinery and improving the living environment on Earth, starting with the construction of Macross City in May 2010. Among that, the "Nature Regeneration Project"—which makes full use of OTM to revive the destroyed and polluted Earth—should be called the core of that recovery effort, and it progressed at an astonishing speed along with the construction and organization of Long- and Short-range Emigrant Fleets.

⬢ The Technology Of And The Resources Invested Into The Nature Regeneration Project
The Earth, which was devastated by the orbital bombardment, suffered from such things as air and soil pollution, and rising temperatures due to the evaporation of the oceans. Immediately after the bombardment, heavy rains continued for half a month resulting in the partial restoration of the oceans, but it wasn't enough to lower the temperature and the humidity. A huge amount of materials and various technologies were deployed to resolve this situation.
⊘ The Re-use Of Stored Materials And Factory Satellites
The plan required an enormous amount of materials, but it was possible to resolve the which could be solved by deploying most of the materials stored in such facilities as the shelters that were in various places, the lunar bases, and the satellite colonies; as well as the captured Zentrādi Factory Satellites.

⊘ The Shading Technologies Used For Global Cooling
An ultra-thin "Space Curtain" with a diameter of 500 km was deployed in space to prevent the temperature from rising due to the greenhouse effect and to lower the elevated temperatures. This blocked sunlight and helped rapidly cool the Earth.

• The cooling effect of the "Space Curtain" was so dramatic that by 2012, areas of permanent snow cover and snowfall were observed.
⊘ The Bacteria For Counterattacking the Radioactive Pollution
Genetically improved bacteria were also deployed to clean up the ground that was contaminated by radiation. The bacteria for radiation removal were designed to self-destruct once they had achieved their intended purpose, just like how the bacteria for adjusting the atmospheric composition had been designed.

⊘ The Zentrādi As A Labour Force
The approximately 2.4 million Zentrādi who were not Micronized became a significant workforce, as one Zentrādi could perform more work than a bulldozer. This also had the intention of softening the hostility of the Earthlings toward the Zentrādi.

⊘ The Plant Bacteria For Adjusting The Atmospheric Composition
The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere had increased, and the concentration of oxygen had also decreased. To reduce the carbon dioxide and increase the oxygen concentration, genetically modified plant bacteria with improved photosynthetic capabilities were sprayed into the oceans.

• The regeneration of the oceans through rainfall and other means also led to an expansion of the habitat of the genetically improved bacteria in the oceans, and the atmospheric composition became close to that of the former Earth.
⊘ The Regeneration Of Flora And Fauna
Approximately one year after it the plan began, plants that were resistant to environmental change from the gene and seed bank were planted. As of Jan. 2012, the majority of the regrowth was vegetation, with animals only being experimentally bred as pets.

• Wild animals were also seen in the few remaining forested areas. The maintenance and expansion of the natural areas are also considered to have been greatly influenced by the Nature Regeneration Project.
Related Matter: The Zentrādi After The War
Shortly after the First Interstellar War, more than 8 million Zentrādi chose to coexist with Earthlings, 70% of whom underwent the Micronization process. Many of the Zentrādi who remained on the Earth or in near space, such as Buritai Kuridaniku and Exsedor Formo, contributed information, technology, and manpower to help the Earth recovery.
▼ Factory Satellite
Zentrādi Factory Satellites were also transferred to the reconstruction of the Earth—which was ruined in the First Interstellar War—and the reorganization of the Unified Forces.

• While disturbances by Zentrādi malcontents were frequent, there were also Earthlings and Zentrādi who had children together.
⬢ Species Survival And Proliferation Plans Outside Of The Nature Regeneration Project
As a result of the enormous resources and manpower invested into the project, the Nature Regeneration Project was a success. At the same time, however, the New Unified Government had also reached the conclusion that if a Main Fleet attacked again, the human race would definitely be wiped out at that time. In order to avoid that, the "Humankind Dissemination Project" was devised for the purpose of ensuring the survival and dissemination the species by searching for habitable planets, and emigrating to them. There were two lineages planned for the project: Long-range Emigrant Fleets and Short-range Emigrant Fleets.

The first Emigrant Ship was rebuilt from a Macross class vessel. It is known as the ship that spearheaded long-distance emigration.

The New Macross class splits into a combat vessel and a residential vessel. It has a vast living area, and it became possible for the emigrants to voyage for a long period of time.
