#08 The Zentraadi Attack (SDFM)
The huge alien spaceship that settled on South Ataria Island in 1999 was commissioned as the "SDF-1 Macross" after a restoration that lasted 10 years. However, on the very day of its space launch ceremony, hostile aliens appeared.

Extra Report: The Challenges of Controlling OTM
Various technologies were harvested and learnt from the fallen alien warship. Nevertheless, mankind wasn't able to analyze all of it. However, if it's beneficial, the creature called man will use it, even though there are parts that aren't yet understood. With the SDF-1 as well, there was a lot of OTM that was used as a result of "I don't understand the theory of it, but I understand how it moves". OTM related troubles frequently occurred as a result, beginning with the booby trap.

Caption: When the SDF-1 took off, only the Gravity Control System broke through the ship's armour and rose into the sky. The accident occurred in spite of a prior check that was normal. It revealed the difficulty in the handling of OTM.

Caption: Even though the omni-directional barrier used the pinpoint barrier, it wasn't possible to control it and it ran out of control; changing the Ontario District into a crater. A lot of Valkyrie pilots were also swallowed up in that situation and lost their lives.

A two-seater Valkyrie. The one with the airframe code VT-102 that Hikaru piloted had been displayed in the Space Launch Ceremony. Even though the self-confident Hikaru was able to control the fighter craft, he was nothing but bewildered by the battroid form.
