Only forward swept wing aircraft, which have high manoeuvrability performance and a controllability that excels with the exaggerated angle, greatly exceed that of the the Zentraadi mobile weapons in air-to-air combat. For example, it was possible for the nose of the VF-19 to continue to be aimed at the other party even if the VF-19 overshot the other party due to their sudden speed and manoeuvrability.

Caption: As each part in the VF-19 series has a component construction, it is easy to optimize the airframe structure according to its use, environment and so on. Compared to the A model, which puts emphasis on manoeuvrability within the atmosphere, it is understood that the E model and onwards have forms that are specialized for space operation with the addition of the thruster ring, the abolition of the canards and ventral fins, and the increased volume of propellant due to the extension of the wing gloves from the strakes.

NP-BAP-15c Booster Unit
A variable thrust type HVRK-27 hydrogen-fuelled engine with a maximum thrust of 96 t is installed as the booster in a Shinsei Industry Booster Unit that is based on the FAST pack for the VF-11. Hydrogen and oxygen fuel slush, the same as the VF-19, fill up the tank. When compared to the VF-11, the Booster Unit has actualized about twice as much maximum thrust and operating time from the increased tank's capacity and the engine. Also, the HVRK-27 is designed to operate in the atmosphere as efficiently as possible by exchanging nozzles. Even though four kinds of optional nozzles have been prepared and are exchanged with each other depending on the the altitude (the accurate atmospheric pressure) of the assumed regime of combat, operational restraints have arisen from operating at altitudes other than the one the nozzle is configured for. At present, production on the type equipped with a linear spike nozzle that can be operated efficiently in all regimes has begun, and deployment is proceeding.
The 1,990 kg thrust LHP-10S verniers are installed in the left and right of the engine, and they compensate for the degradation in manoeuvrability caused by the increase in mass from the mounting the FAST Packs. These verniers are the same as the ones installed as optional units on the dorsal spine behind the cockpit. The NP-BAP-15c option packs have dedicated built-in space forward of the engines. The HMMP-15 Micro-missile Pallet and HMPP-12 Multiple Weapon Pod can be installed in this space. Even though two symmetrical packs are stored on the right and left of the VF-19, the left and right are separate pods, with one of the two able to carry something other than a fuel tank, or both can be hydrogen and oxygen tanks.
The NP-BAP-15c are often used together with the NP-AB-20b, and this combination is called a Super Pack.
HMMP-15 Micro-missile Pallet
A maximum of 220 HMM-20(e) Micro-missiles can be stowed in the front of the NA-BP-15c. The HMM-20(e) is a new generation micro-missile, and has overwhelmingly improved thrust, manoeuvrability, destructive power and so one compared to the HMM-18, which has been used up until now. Missile guidance for target confirmation and pursuit is by laser scanning, and information exchanged between missiles is usually by means of laser / broad-wavelength regional electromagnetic waves, and it is possible for them to pursue a target in formation. Also, there are three modes in the pursuit system, and by being set when the missile is loaded, after the missile launches, it will pursuit the target in each mode (refer to the paragraph on the HMM-20(e) Micro-missile for details).
HMPP-12 Multiple Weapon Pack
It is the pod where the anti-air-missiles called the AMM-7 Sparrow V and the AMM-4 Agile Falcon are stored, as well as the anti-ship missiles, such as the ASM-5. If the pod is loaded with the AMM-7 Sparrow V, two can be stored in one side.

SPP-8 Propelled Mass Driver Pod
At first, the SPP-8 was developed as an autonomous flight pod for combat in outer space. Taking a quick look at the pointed face, the majority of the main body is virtually mass bullets that are used for attacks, in a propulsion motor. 100 single warheads molded with a high density material of OTM origin are stored in the front of the pod. After the main body is sufficiently accelerated with the propulsion motor, it hammers out the 100 shots with an electromagnetic shooting mechanism, at point blank range on the target. A single bullet also is a material that is highly magnetic, and they are expected to cause a heavy influence on the electrical and magnetic systems of the target being shot, in addition to the destructive effect due to the mass of the shells.
Even though the pod, whose operation within the atmosphere has also been considered, can also have rotating stowed-type stabilizers added to it, it cannot be given manoeuvrability in space, and examples of its use are hardly seen. Although there are cases where the mass bullets are simultaneously fired for close-defence while still mounted on the main wings, it seems to have achieved a moderate effect against the fragile parts of the other party's armour.
Even though the pet name "balsam" that crews of Japanese decent applied to the appearance of the split open mass shots that they saw didn't permeate, it was solely called "popcorn pack" by ground crew.
LPP-12 Propelled Laser Pod
A chemical laser emitting device is installed internally in a pod only for space. It was developed with the plan that after it has flown to the vicinity of the target, the leading edge faring is disposed of and it performs continuous short-term laser emissions. Even though it is possible for the laser to have a large output and continuously fire due to the introduction of OTM technology, there is a limit to the number of times that the pod can fire, as well as a limitation on the pod's capacity. Although it is difficult to aim while doing manoeuvres, the pod was designed with a mobile type of laser emission device that can cover an 80 vertical angle cone.
Even though there was also a time that its effectiveness as a weapon itself was held in doubt during the LPP-12's initial development, it was found out that the LPP-12 is oriented toward escape as self-defence equipment and not as an offensive weapon, as it presented applications such as intercepting missiles that the enemy had let loose, and gaining time to attempt to withdrawal from the battlefield by temporarily confining the enemy. Its main purpose is not to shoot down or destroy enemy aircraft. At the present time, it is still on the road to development as an armament, and improvements aimed at such things as aiming precision and an advancement in emission power are continuing.
In addition, the Unified Forces are also researching a laser pod that carries out laser excitation by using the explosion of an ultra-small reaction warhead installed in the weapon. In this case, even though the pod is annihilated at the same time as the laser discharges, it can obtain a laser output in a different order of magnitude altogether, in exchange for the loss of the pod.

The YF-19 was produced as a full-scale development aircraft after a technology proving aircraft that was based on the VF-11C. The No.1 craft to the No.8 were produced, and the YF-19 enacted all sorts of tests that led from functions to operational aspects. Among the YF-19, with the exception of the No.1 craft that was lost due to an accident in the initial testing, and besides the No.4 and No.7 craft, which were retrofit and deployed in actual combat, the No.2 and two-seater No.8 craft were collected and displayed in the Macross Memorial Hall in Macross City after they participated in their first deployment in a demonstration tour.

Fighter Form:
Length: 18.62 m
Width: 14.87 m
The first full-blown production type in the VF-19 series. Although there are altered parts in the hilt of the aircraft according to the layout of the production line, the basic performance and airframe shape are almost identical to the YF-19. The cockpit became completely a single-seater, and the simple back seat that had been installed on the YF-19 is removed.
VF-19B - Two-seater Model
Model: VF-19B
Empty Weight: 8,930 kg
Main Propulsion: Shinsei / P&W / Royce FF-2550J x2
Thrust: 66,200 kg x2 (maximum instantaneous thrust in space), 57,200 kg (maximum instantaneous thrust in atmosphere)
Maximum Speed: Mach 5.1 at 10,000 m, Mach 24+ at 30,000 m.
Crew: 2
A two-seater that was ordered at the same time as the VF-19A. The overall length of the nose hasn't been changed, but the dorsal section is greatly expanded for the addition of a rear seat. It is an aircraft that is used as a trainer for the model conversion training to the VF-19. As the VF-19D appeared soon afterwards, the number of VF-19B produced is extremely few.
VF-19C - Mass Production Model
Model: VF-19C
Empty Weight: 8,750 kg
Main Propulsion: Shinsei / P&W / Royce FF-2550J x2
Thrust: 66,200 kg x2 (maximum instantaneous thrust in space), 57,200 kg (maximum instantaneous thrust in atmosphere)
Maximum Speed: Mach 5.1 at 10,000 m, Mach 24+ at 30,000 m.
Crew: 1
Although the C model was an aircraft initially ordered as an addition to the A type, it was tentatively called the A+ (Plus) during production, as the largest change that was performed to it was a revision only to the type of escape equipment in the seat's escape system in the A/B models, in addition to updates to the FCS and so on. When it was delivered to the Unified Forces, it was given the official number of VF-19C. The final production aircraft had additional changes, such as the addition of the change to the FF-2550J rev.2 engines. As of 2050, it has the highest number of produced aircraft in the VF-19 series.
VF-19D - Two-seater Model
Model: VF-19D
Empty Weight: 8,980 kg
Main Propulsion: Shinsei / P&W / Royce FF-2550J x2
Thrust: 66,200 kg x2 (maximum instantaneous thrust in space), 57,200 kg (maximum instantaneous thrust in atmosphere)
Maximum Speed: Mach 5.1 at 10,000 m, Mach 24+ at 30,000 m.
Crew: 2
The two-seater type of VF-19C. It is also often operated independently for such things as the long-distance escort of senior officers and as a trainer. There are several deployed to each fleet. It seems to have been found useful as a mobile unit that takes deep-space defensive duties.
VF-19E - Advance Experimental Mass Production Model
Model: VF-19E
Empty Weight: 8,690 kg
Main Propulsion: Shinsei / P&W / Royce FF-2550J rev.2 x2
Thrust: 78,500 kg x2 (maximum instantaneous thrust in space)
Maximum Speed: Mach 5.0 at 10,000 m, Mach 25+ at 30,000 m.
Crew: 1
Fighter Form:
Length: 18.47 m
Width: 14.92 m
A mass produced fighter that was produced at a low-rate during the initial production period of the VF-19. Design changes were performed based on operational data obtained from the airframes up tp the D model. The E model became the prototype of the F model. It is equipped with a thruster ring, and with having an improvement in manoeuvrability in mind, the FF-2550J/rev.2 are employed as the engines. Therefore, there is a great design change from the accompanying engine nacelle to the nozzle. In addition to anticipating an increased chance of the VF-19 being equipped with Super Packs, measures were undertaken to keep the vertical tails in a position that doesn't interfere with the packs, and the VF-19E is constructed as a type that specializes in operations in outer space, by exchanging each component for one that improves its performance in outer space.
Caption: side
Caption: top
Caption: Main wing variations. There are several confirmed wing shapes for the E model, with some wings being the same as the C model, others with a straight-line trailing edge, and so on. Also, the transformation mechanism to high-speed flight form remains, and the E model itself was endorsed in placements as a testing aircraft.
Fighter Form:
Length: 18.47 m
Width: 13.52 m
The perfected E model that was designed as a type specialized in operations in outer space. In addition to the modification of the wing shape, the high-speed flight mode that's used in the atmosphere has been omitted from it. A set of hardpoints on the main wings and gloves have been removed, and have been changed to two under-wing hardpoints on each side. The wing shape has also been developed, and has a little bit of an increase in atmospheric manoeuvrability. The FF-2550J derivative engine, the (DFE) FF-2550J/rev.2 is installed as the engine.

T
he wing ship is specialized for operations in outer space, and it is compactly designed with consideration of the weight balance. The transformation mechanism to the High-speed Flight Form has been omitted.
Caption: Improved Manoeuvrability Within An Atmosphere Type
In Emigrant Planet guard duties and so on, there are many cases of the VF-19F's deployment point being operations both inside and outside of the atmosphere. So, it is equipped with a wing shape that considers the aircraft's aerodynamics.
VF-19S - Derivative Model
Model: VF-19S
Empty Weight: 8,620 kg
Main Propulsion: Shinsei / P&W / Royce FF-2550X x2
Thrust: 68,950 kg x2 (maximum instantaneous thrust in space)
A derivative of the VF-19F. It is designed with an improvement in firepower. There are no changes except for the Battroid's head being equipped with an additional 4 lasers. It is mainly deployed together with the F model to the core of the Emigrant Fleets. The airframes of the S model are often used as the aircraft assigned to commanders, and the VF-19 series follows this tradition. The FF-2550J performance improved engines, the (IPE) FF-2550X engines, are installed in the VF-19S.
The VF-19P is an aircraft that suits patrol duties in Emigrant Fleets and on Emigrant Planets. It attempted to extend the cruising range in exchange for a suppression of the engine's output. As it was assumed that Emigrants would be provided with the VF-19P, in addition to a functional restriction that was put on some of the avionics, the control system was also revised, and it consequently has had an improvement in it's ease of handling. Its use in the atmosphere was also considered, and the ventral fins that were omitted in the E model have been restored. As for the engine nacelles, the shape of the weapon bay has changed, and the rate of target discovery when launching micro-missiles has been decreased. At present, even though production in the Earth sphere has stopped, licensed production seems to be continuing in Emigrant Fleets, on some Emigrant Planets, and so on.
The VFA-19A is an airframe that is a VF-19A with supplemental armaments, and was developed for use in assaults on terrorist bases, support in the rescue of important persons, and so on. The underside of the nose is supplementally equipped with the two-barrelled Mauler REB-33D Laser Gun Turret, and the Glove Laser Guns have also been exchanged for the higher-output Mauler REB-35. Also, more electrical power can be supplied by making the engines the FF-2550J/rev.2, and a Pin-point Barrier can also be deployed in Fighter mode by dropping the electrical power of the airframe to the very limit of maintaining the aircraft's functions. For that reason, it becomes possible to penetrate up to a maximum of a hyper-concrete made shelter by rushing into it in Fighter mode with the Pin-point Barrier expanded on the nose and wing-edges. 36 planes were newly built, and 24 were made by modifying the VF-19A. The VFA-19A is mainly deployed to Special Combat Air Squadrons.

An early-warning model that is based on the two-seater [VF-19D] model. The VF-19D based VFE-19D was made on the assumption that it'd be mainly used within the atmosphere. A long and slender right-angled hexahedron radome is installed on the top part of the airframe. The RPF-32 Composite Aperture Radar is around the radome. The effective detection range is estimated to be a maximum of 2,000 to 2,500 km.

The VEF-19E was made on the assumption that it'd be mainly used outside of the atmosphere. A triangular radome is installed on the upper part of the fuselage. The RPF-72, which is installed as the internal radar, is said to have the ability to detect the shape of a VF class mobile body at a distance of more than 50,000 km, by combining and exposing it to more than 30 kinds of radar wavelengths. Incidentally, this radar has an active phased array, the same as the radar in the nose of the VF-19 series, that electronically controls the scanning direction of the electro-magnetic waves. The radome doesn't need to be rotated like those in the past.
Even though the fixed armaments of both types [of VEF-19] have been removed because of their relation to the power supply of the radar, the weapon bays on the sides of the engine nacelles have remained, and it is possible to load air-to-air missiles, micro-missiles and so on in them for self-defence. 36 newly made VEF-19D, and 58 newly made VEF-19E were produced.
A special operations aircraft for the escort of important persons and rescue, that was developed based on the VF-19C. 90% of the transformation mechanisms and the fixed armaments have been removed, and the nose has been extended. G-proof seats for 5 people have been installed. within the enlarged dorsal spine. The VC-19C is used for such things as forcing its way through disputed regions of space while carrying important persons, the rescue of important persons who have been abducted, and so on. A total of 25 VF-19C that were produced in blocks 17 and 20 were remodelled into the VIP-Calibur at Shinsei Industry's L-7 Factory.
VRF-19D Recon-Calibur - Reconnaissance Model
Model: VRF-19D
Empty Weight: 10,880 kg
Maximum Speed: Mach 5.0 at 12,000 m, Mach 25 at 50,000+ m
Crew: 2
Passengers: 5
Length when reconnaissance pod is stored: 19.75 m
Length when reconnaissance pod is extended: 19.75 m
A reconnaissance model that was developed based on the VF-19C, and isn't loaded with armaments. It flies at high-speed in the upper stratum of the atmosphere at an 80,000 m altitude, which is outside the range of anti-air missiles, anti-air lasers and so forth. The target area is probed with all sorts of optical sensors, radar and so on, along with a transmission of data to the [VF's] base in real-time. It is possible to more flexibly operate the VRF-19D more flexibly than a reconnaissance satellite that's in a regular orbit. The VRF-19D has the investigative abilities of the average reconnaissance satellite, and other than a reconnaissance bay that is added and equipped in the underside of the nose, it is equipped with a reconnaissance pallet instead of a Gunpod. The weapon bays on the sides of the engine nacelles are made entirely of propellant tanks, so that the VRF-19D can fly for a long period of time in the thin air of the upper stratum of the atmosphere. 56 were made as new production aircraft.
