Scimitar Combat Vehicle Reconnaisance (Tracked) |
BACKGROUND
The Scimitar is the mainstay reconnaissance vehicle of British Army Formation Reconaissance Regiments and Close Reconnaissance Troops, including Platoons of Armoured and Mechanised Battlegroups. It is an ideal Reconnaissance vehicle, mobile and fast, with good communications and excellent viewing equipment, more than capable of fulfilling its primary role of information gathering. Used by medium reconnaissance Regiments and armoured infantry units for reconnaissance primarily. Like its close cousin the Warrior AFV the Scimitar is equipped with a 30 mm cannon for defence against enemy vehicles, and a 7.62mm machine gun on top for anti-personnel work. There are 192 in service with the British Army's Armoured Regiments.
