Flight Suits & Other Anti-G Systems

There are various anti-G systems that have been created in the Macross universe. Each one is generally an improvement on its predecessors. However, with the newer fighter craft, the G load that the pilot can safely handle is the main limiter on manueverability. With the creation of ISC and related systems (EX-Gear, Cyborgization, etc.), it has become possible to create manned craft capable of manuevering at unmanned craft levels.

When determining the G-load that your pilot can take, there are two or three components to consider. The main component is the pilot suit; in general, latter pilot suits offer more G protection than earlier ones. The next component is the seat; in general, a fighter craft can be equipped with only one type of seat; whether that is an Anti-G Mechanism seat, a Mobile seat, or an EX-Gear seat. The last component, which is only applicable from around the Macross Frontier era, is ISC. Of course, if you're playing a cyborg character, then that's another factor to take into consideration.

In general, earlier variable craft tend to handle less G loads than the pilot can, thereby becoming the main limiter on manueverability. Middle generation variable craft can sustain equal G loads as the pilot. Latter generation variable craft, such as the VF-19 and VF-25, can handle much more than the pilot can.

Another way to look at it is, its nearly impossible to damage the airframe with middle and latter variable craft due to G loads, but it is easy to do so with earlier craft. What damage would that be? Apart from making it impossible for the vehicle to transform to a different mode, it is possible that the flight characteristics are messed up, thereby causing a reduction of 1/4 to 1/3 of the vehicle's top speed. Excessive G loads can even cause the vehicle to break up!

Anti-G Systems

Seat With Anti-G Mechanism

It is not an OTM device; though the optimization of the angle of the seat is the subject of the body current stimulant system (the so-called vital point stimulation), in case of high g, it is also possible to handle an increase of about 20 to 30% more.

  • Up to 11 G.

    Mobile Seat

Reduction of horizontal G when rolling by the mobile seat, Marty & Beck VX-Mk-12a. (From descriptions, this reduction is most applicable to instantaneous G loads, as it has a reduced functionality with sustained G loads.)

    In use from 2040.

  • Up to 15 G.

    EX Gear

An "Interface that's worn", which enables highly accurate flight control due to the pilot's muscles' electrical current. In addition, there are such things as a medical kit and simple cold sleep functions. The EX-Gear is also provided with a life preservation function for the pilot, whom should be regarded more than the manned craft itself.

Developed in the Macross Frontier Fleet. In use from 2059.

  • G resistance: +8

    ISC

Inertia Store Converter (ISC), a transformation and inertia storing system adopted into the YF-24 Evolution and it's derivative fighters (the VF-25, VF-27 and so on). Its common names are inertial buffer, inertia buffer and so on.

    In use from 2057.

  • G resistance: +10 G
  • G resistance with Ex-Gear: 27 G (Macross Frontier Fleet)

Note: other fleets are most likely lower. If they are similar, it is because they have developed some kind of G resistance technology (ie Macross Galaxy's cyborgs). The Unified Forces of Earth have kept the best technology for themselves, and they have an ISC that grants +13 G.

    Cyborgization

The anti-G effects are about the same as an EX-Gear equipped craft. Combined with the VF-27 Flight Suit, they greatly exceed an EX-Gear equipped craft. Combined with the VF-27 Flight Suit and ISC, the G resistance is equivalent to the VF-25 (27+ G resistance).

    Flight Suits in general

Flight suits are not suits of armour! They're first job is to provide life-support in low or no heat, reduced or no oxygen environments. They're second job is as a G-suit. Only those flight suits expressly designed for use in space are hardened and offer a small amount of protection; as they are designed to protect against micro-meteor strikes. All flight suits reduce blunt/impact damage (falls, punchs, crashes, etc) by half, up to the allowed SDC of the Suit.

In general, the helmet will be the suit's AR +2, and the suit's SDC x1.5.

Depending on which era the game is taking place in, player characters could have wildly different flight suits. The following are the most common specifications:

    Macross Zero Era

The Fighter Pilot suit consists of a helmet, jumpsuit, G-Suit, gloves, boots, and harness. The jumpsuit is worn over the G-Suit, which cuts down on the amount of pilot blackout during high-G maneuvers.
