Northrom F-3000 Fighter

BACKGROUND

The F-3000 Fighter is a derivative of the QF-3000E Ghost; which was a later extension of the Superbird series of hypersonic lifting-body unmanned fighter-bomber. It is designed to operate in all regimes, and includes guidance thrusters and control fins on its surface.

The controlling AI and main sensor of the QF-3000E Ghost has been replaced with a standard reinforced cockpit. As it is a manned version of the QF-3000E, some emigrant fleets and colony forces use them as squadron leaders of the unmanned Ghosts, or as elite special tactics teams to vary the actions and reactions of their air/space force.

The F-3000 Fighter is about a third cheaper to manufacture and operate than a VF. It's parts compatibility with the QF-3000E Ghost is another important purchasing point.

The F-3000E Ghost entered service from the 2030s onward and has seen considerable success amongst Colony Defense Forces seeking a low-cost alternative aerospace all environment interceptor. In the civilian market, the F-3000 Fighter is used for exploration and defense. Though the majority of civilian users find the use of missiles cost-prohibitive.

There has been a glut in the market in the late 2040s and early 2050s due to the UN Forces selling off its remaining fleet of QF-3000E as they upgrade to the QF-4000. Many of the surplus QF-3000E Ghost receive modifications and make the transition to the F-3000 Fighter configuration and are sold to Colony Defense Forces and civilians.

WEAPON SYSTEMS

1. LARGE BORE CANNONS (6):

Mounted in left and right side of main fuselage. The cannons are fixed forward, so the entire craft must be aimed at the target to hit. The cannons can be fire-linked, and their combined damage enables them to destroy enemy craft with a single blasts.

2. MISSLE LAUNCH BAYS (2):

There are Eight missile launch bays with hatches mounted in left and right side of main fuselage. The QF-3000E Ghost usually carries Bifors HMM-01 micro-missiles. Bifors HMM-01 are considered to be all-purpose missiles.

3. COUNTERMEASURE DISPENSERS

Combined chaff, flare and squib dispensers mounted on them that are useable in all modes. When used, they fire a burst of 6 flares, 1 exploding chaff container or one parachute squib per 1 unit listed in the stats. Chaff, flares and squibs are each unique in their means of countering attacking missiles.

4. HAND TO HAND COMBAT

N/A. However, the F-3000 Fighter can ram a target. Ram attacks destroy the F-3000 Fighter and a similar or smaller sized craft. Larger craft are heavily damaged, and usually only a hole with minor internal damage is caused on larger spaceships.

FAST AND SUPER PACKS

The F-3000 Fighter is occasionally outfitted with FAST packs similar to the QF-3000T (see picture). They are almost exclusively used for reconnaissance patrols. The passenger seat is used by an electronic warfare officer in this configuration. Two additional electronic warfare officers can be seated, thereby boosting the effectiveness of the craft in AWACS missions.

These FAST packs are used only in space and are never used in an atmosphere due to their lack of aerodynamics.

1. DORSAL SENSOR PODS:

Contain additional sensors and communication equipment, allowing the F-3000 Fighter to conduct long-distance, long-duration patrols, and to stay in contact with home base at great distance.

2. VENTRAL FUEL TANKS

Provides the extra fuel and coolant to the F-3000 Fighter.
