Hatchet Class Destroyer "Untamed"

HatchetDestroyer1 (70K)

BACKGROUND

A destroyer operated by the Vinderance terrorist group. It swoops down on the Special Duty Force Ravens, who struck the Vinderance Fleet that massed in the Tau Ceti star system in the Cetus constellation. It is heavily equipped, as if it is an armoury, and it battles with the armaments themselves changing form.

The First Stage: in addition to the additional armour's rapid-fire multi-small-size missiles, the destroyer attacks with Gatling guns, which are installed in the front and rear of the ship.

The Second Stage: the radar array on the top part of the ship folds up, and a two-step shelter covers the bridge. The rapid-fire multi-large missile launchers in the front of the ship open, and the concealed 4-barrel Beam Gun turret on the back juts out.

The Third Stage: in addition to the forward Beam Launcher, the firearms that are stowed in the hull are fully opened.

Original Description
The Hatchet class Destroyer is one of the latest addition to the arsenals of the Anti-Unification Forces and a variety of unaligned emigrant planets and organisations. The Hatchet class Destroyer has a staggering array of weapons, ranging in scale from anti-mobile weapon to anti-warship. Despite its small size, it can outgun ships much larger than it. One of the more interesting things about the Hatchet Class Destroyer is that it resembles the Sentinel Class Stealth Carrier. The Hatchet Class Destroyer shares nearly the same basic shape as the Sentinel, despite the destroyer being slightly larger. Both ship classes also share a transformation sequence - though the outcome is radically different - and both are stealth vessels.

Unified Forces Intelligence believes that someone has taken the plans for the Sentinel and modified them to create a powerful Destroyer. As to who has done this no one knows. It is believed that the Critical Path Corporation maybe responsible, but no evidence can be found.

Only a handful of this class of vessel have been encountered by the Unified Forces so far. However, its appearance shows a definite change in tactics by the Anti-Unified Forces. Specifically that they are now developing specialized ships for attacking the Unified Forces, and growing bolder as a result. It is also evident from the Hatchet Class Destroyer, that the Anti-Unification Forces now have their hands on manufacturing technologies needed to create stealth vehicles. The implications of this are quite dark, and the Unified Government has redoubled its efforts to find the manufacturing location or locations of these weapon suppliers.

At present, the Hatchet class Destroyer is largely being used either to punch a hole in the defensive lines of a force being attacked or to cover the retreat of other ships in the same fleet. In both cases, just the hint of the hordes of missiles that the Hatchet class Destroyer can unleash put the people that the ship is attacking on the defensive.

NOTES:

  1. Depleting the MDC of the main body will put the Destroyer out of commission. All internal systems will shut down, including life support and internal gravity. The ship itself will be an unsalvageable floating wreck.
  2. Destroying the Bridge will instantly kill the command staff and deprive the ship of all forms of long range communications, radar and targeting. The range and targeting capabilities of the secondary systems are equal to that of a VF-11 Thunderbolt. The ship can still operate, but is at -3 on initiative, -3 to strike, and number of attacks per melee of the weapon systems are reduced by half. Destroying the main sensory array atop the Bridge will have the same effect, but the command staff will not be killed instantly.
  3. Depleting the MDC of the main engines will force the ship to rely on its secondary engines. Depleting the MDC of the main engines AND secondary engines will leave the ship adrift in space. If in an atmosphere, the ship will crash (destruction of the main engines will render the antigravity system useless due to loss of power).
  4. The Pinpoint Barriers regenerate at a rate of 1,250 MD per second (2,500 MD per melee round). If destroyed, a barrier will completely regenerate within 2 seconds (1 melee rounds). See the Pinpoint Barrier System entry for details.

WEAPON SYSTEMS:

1. MULTI-BARREL MULTI-DIRECTIONAL ANTI-SHIP CANNON:

The main anti-ship weapon of the Hatchet class Destroyer is the 'chin' mounted anti-ship beam cannons. Each barrel is capable of a 15° arc of fire from the standard firing position. The cannons are capable of punching great holes through enemy starships - even destroying them if multiple barrels are used. The firing time is slow for this weapon, but it is immensely powereful. The main draw back to the multi-barreled anti-ship cannon is that its maximum effective range is less than the other weapons on the destroyer.

2. TRIPLE-BARRELED LASER CANNONS (4/6):

In addition to the main anti-ship cannon located on the ships chin mount are the triple barrelled Laser cannons. In cruiser mode the ships has only 4 of these cannons exposed and available to fire. When the ship changes to attacker mode an additional two cannons emerge facing towards the rear of the ship. The Cannons are positioned with two facing forward, and two facing rear in cruiser mode. When the ship changes to attacker mode the additional two cannons emerge giving the ship 2 forward, and 4 aft.

3. DUAL LASER ANTI WARSHIP CANNONS (3):

Part of the main anti-warship weapons that the Hatchet Class Destroyer fields. Mounted on both sides of the ship, and one on the dorsal surface facing aft. The side mounted cannons extend outwards when the ship transforms to attack mode, which permits them a much wider fire arc.

4. RETRACTABLE TRIPLE-BARRELLED RAIL GUN (1):

Utilising kinetic energy the triple barrelled, Rail Gun can fire rounds through even the toughest armour. The Rail Gun is however limited to a 180 degree rotation, with 45 degree elevation allowing it to protect the ships sides and rear during combat. For its size the rail gun causes impressive damage, even though it is not able to generate the amount of kinetic energy damage of the much larger and more powerful rail guns of the New Macross Class Carriers.

5. MISSILE LAUNCHER SPONSONS (2):

Seated on top of the Destroyer, behind the dorsal Dual Laser Cannon Turret are two large sponsons of Medium Range Missiles. The Sponson must be detached for the Hatchet class Destroyer to fully transform to attack mode and be able to deploy the dorsal mounted Triple-Barrelled Rail Gun which is stored beneath the sponsons behind sliding armour plating. The sponsons when used are ejected away from the destroyer where upon they begin launching missiles in swarms.

6. HEAVY MISSILE LAUNCHERS (2):

Located under an armored panel (dorsal) in cruiser mode, the panel raises in attack configuration to reveal two Heavy Missle Launcher. These missle launchers can only be used in Attack Configuration.

7. LONG RANGE MISSILE LAUNCHERS (2):

Located under the Port and Starboard Dual Beam Cannons are two Long Range Missle Launchers. The weapon system slides out horizontally to reveal the two Long Range Missle Launchers.

8. HIGH MANOUVERABILITY MISSILE LAUNCHERS (4):

Opening from the front like claws opening around the face of the Destroyer are four High Manouverability Missile Launcher Bays. The newest version of the High Manouverability Missile is mounted as the frontline missile defence on the Hatchet class of vessels, designed as defence against enemy mecha.

9. SHORT RANGE ROTARY MISSILE LAUNCHER (1):

Located underneath the ship, under an armored panel is a short range rotary missle launcher. This launcher rotates while being fired so that some missle tubes are being reloaded while other are firing. This results in a devastating rate of fire for the launchers.

10. PINPOINT BARRIER DEFENSE SYSTEM:

Originally developed by researchers onboard the SDF-01 Macross during Space War One, the Pinpoint Barrier System is a standard defense system on board all UN Spacy starships. The system generates four small disc-shaped force fields that can be positioned anywhere along the ship to deflect missiles, energy beams or projectiles. Each pinpoint barrier is about 61 m in length and can absorb up to 2,500 MD in damage, which then regenerates within 15 seconds (1 melee round). The barriers can also be layered on top of each other to generate a field which provides 10,000 MDC and can even deflect heavy particle beams (sometimes).

The four barriers are controlled by operators in the command tower of the destroyer. These operators are instructed to defend (1) the command tower, bridge, and sensor array, (2) main engines, (3) hangar bays, and (4) weapon systems, in that order. The operators primarily concentrate on defending the ship against larger spacecraft and leave defense against mecha attacking the carrier to the VF pilots.
