Macross Zero Era (2008)

Unified Forces Uniforms
Unified Forces Pilot Jumpsuit The standard Unified Forces fighter pilot jumpsuit, worn by pilots when not required to be in full uniform. This is normally when they are waiting for—but not actively on—combat alert, where they will be required to be waiting in their flight suits.

Unified Forces Officer and Soldier Uniforms On the left is the combat uniform of the Unified Forces Marines. In the center is the Unified Forces Marines standby uniform. On the right is the standard Unified Naval Forces warship captain's uniform. The image is without the captain's hat.

M0scientist (28K) Unified Forces Auxillary Personnel Uniforms On the left is the uniform of the mechanics on the Asuka II Carrier assigned to maintaining the experimental VF-0. On the right is the standard Unified Forces scientist uniform. It is merely a lab coat worn over personal clothes—which range from practical and comfortable to stylish and formal.

Anti Unification Alliance Uniforms
Anti Unification Alliance Pilot Jumpsuit The standard Anti Unification Alliance fighter pilot jumpsuit, worn by pilots when not required to be in full uniform. This is normally when they are waiting for—but not actively on—combat alert, where they will be required to be waiting in their flight suits. A jacket is often worn over the jumpsuit (not pictured).

Anti Unification Alliance Soldier Uniforms On the left is the appearance of the general Anti Unification Alliance soldiers that landed on Mayan Island. When landing, such things as a lot of magazines and a radio were put into their pouches. They wore a special combat helmet equipped with sensors and goggles. On the right is the appearance of the Anti Unification Alliance special forces. They are lightly equiped to ease operations behind enemy lines. They generally don't deploy with a helmet, but can use the AUN Soldier's helmet when needed.

SDFM/DYRL era (2009)

Unified Forces Uniforms
Unified Forces Uniforms and Jumpsuits On the left are the normal Unified Forces uniforms for male and female personnel. While the uniform remains the same for all personnel, the colour changes according to position or the pilot's personal colours. From L to R, they are: the male pilot uniform, the female pilot uniform, the engine room personnel uniform, the MP (military police) uniform, and the general uniform. On the right is the standard Unified Forces jumpsuit, worn by personnel when not required to be in full uniform. This is normally when they are waiting for—but not actively on—combat alert. It is lightweight jumpsuit, and there is not much of a difference between the ones for male and female personnel, and officers and pilots.

Unified Forces Officer Uniforms On the left are the uniforms of the bridge officers (TV version). Regular crew have a tan coloured version of these uniforms. The uniform remains the same for all personnel, but the colour changes according to position. From L to R, they are: the ship captain in the cCommand officer's uniform—a more formal version of the standard UNS uniform, two senior female bridge officer uniforms, three the junior female bridge officer uniform, and the Pinpoint Barrier control officer uniform. On the right are the uniforms of the bridge officers (movie version). The main differences with the TV version uniforms are the colours (the command officer's and junior female bridge officer's uniforms), a lapel pin on the collar, and the stripes on the chest and cuffs that donate rank and position.

Unified Forces High Command Uniforms On the far left is an admiral's uniform. Left of center is the uniform of an officer on a base. The center uniform is worn by base personnel. On the right is the uniform worn by Unified Forces' officers. On the far right is the uniform worn by the admirals during the Unification War.

Unified Forces Dress Uniforms On the left are the dress uniforms from SDFM. From L to R, they are: the male command officer's dress uniform, and the female officer's dress uniform. On the right are the dress uniforms from DYRL. From L to R, they are: the command officer's dress uniform, the female officer's dress uniform, and the male dress uniform.

Unified Forces Auxillary Personnel Uniforms On the left is the boot camp recruit uniform (top), and the Unified Forces infantry (bottom). Left of center is the light purple uniform of the general ground workers assigned to the Macross. They were also in charge of such things as driving troop transport vehicles and material transporters. (Note: they are referred to as 'general soldiers' in Macross Perfect Memory.) In the center is the mechanic's uniform. Right of center is the nurse's uniform. On the right is the engineer's uniform.

Unified Forces Uniforms In The Unification War
Unified Forces Uniforms On the left is the officer cadet uniform. In the center and on the right are the uniforms of male and female personnel.
(Note: refer to Unified Forces High Command Uniforms above for the Unification War-era's admiral's uniform.)

Zentrādi Uniforms
Zentrādi Soldier Uniforms On the left is the standard Zentrādi uniform. Low-ranking officers wear a reddish-brown coat (pictured on the left), and soldiers wear a khaki green coat. On the right is the DYRL version of the Zentrādi soldier uniform. It is the equivalent of the Armoured Spacesuit and General Spacesuits worn in the SDFM version.

Zentrādi Officer Uniforms On the left is the standard Zentrādi officer's uniform. It is the same as the standard soldier uniform, however the pants are also reddish-brown. The uniform is also modified with an additional cape. Left of center is the DYRL version of the Zentrādi officer uniform. The uniform is modified by the chevron-shaped helmet, otherwise it is unchanged. Right of center is the Zentrādi commander's uniform. It is similar to the soldier and officer uniforms, however it is modified with a sleeveless overcoat. On the right is the DYRL version of the Zentrādi commander uniform. The uniform is modified by an overcoat, and lacks the back-of-the-head armour.

Zentrādi Adviser Uniform On the left is the Zentrādi Adviser's uniform. The cloak conceals their weak form (weaker than the average Zentrādi), as their genetics have concentrated everything on enhancing their cranium/brain. On the right is the DYRL version of the Zentrādi Adviser's uniform. In addition to an enlarged cranium/brain and an even weaker form, they also have tentacle like appendages that they use for manipulating and/or examining objects.

Zentrādi Supreme Commander Uniform On the left is the Zentrādi supreme commander's uniform. It is unclear how similar or different it is to the standard soldier and officer uniforms, as the overcoat completely covers the body. On the right is the DYRL version of the Zentrādi supreme commander uniform. As the supreme commander is hardwired into their Mobile Fortress, it is more akin to the armoured 'skin' of the commander, and the biological connections with the rest of the ship. In addition to an enlarged form (several orders of magnitude larger than the regular Zentrādi), they also have tentacle like appendages that they use for manipulating and/or examining objects.

Zentrādi Worker Uniform The uniform of the giant workers on Earth after the end of the First Interstellar War.

Meltran Uniforms
Meltran Soldier and Adviser Uniforms On the left is the standard Meltran uniform. Unlike the Zentrādi version, the Meltran version is light purple. In the center is the DYRL version of the Meltran soldier uniform. Officers and soldiers wear the same style of uniform. On the right is the Meltran Adviser's uniform. It is modified with a cloak that conceals their weak form (weaker than the average Zentrādi), as their genetics have concentrated everything on enhancing their cranium/brain. (Note: there is no DYRL equivalent to the Meltran Adviser.)

Meltran Officer and Commander Uniforms On the left is the standard Meltran officer's uniform. It is the same as the standard soldier uniform, however is red. The uniform is also modified with an additional cape. (Note: refer to the Meltran Soldier Uniform (above) for the DYRL version of the Meltran offier uniform.) On the right is the DYRL version of the Meltran supreme commander uniform. As the supreme commander is hardwired into their Mobile Fortress, it is more akin to the armoured 'skin' of the commander, and the fibre-optic-style nerve connections with the rest of the ship. In addition to an enlarged form (several orders of magnitude larger than the regular Zentrādi), they are also partialy composed of a holographic projection. (Note: an SDFM equivalent to the Meltran Supreme Commander was not presented in the TV series.)

Macross Plus Era (2040)

Unified Forces Uniforms
UNS Jumpsuit and Uniform On the left is the standard Unified Forces jumpsuit. It is also worn by pilots when not required to be in full uniform. This is normally when they are waiting for—but not actively on—combat alert, when they will be required to be waiting in their flight suits. On the right is the standard duty uniform worn by UNAF, UNSM, and Variable Fighter Pilots (when required to wear full uniform). Unified Space Forces and Unified Naval Forces personnel wear an almost identical uniform—the only difference being the UNS/UNN uniform has long sleeves. (See Unified Forces Soldier Uniform [below] for legwear.)

UNS Soldier and Military Police Uniforms On the left is the standard duty uniform worn by UNAF, UNSM, UNN, and UNS soldiers. It is composed of a duty uniform, kevlar vest, and helmet. In the center is the Military Police officer's uniform. The Military Police are part of the Unified Forces Security onboard the SDF-1. They wear a Navy Blue Uniform with gold piping. Pictured on the right is an officer carrying an MP-9 Submachine gun—the standard firearm used within ship (as of 2040). On the right are a pair of MPs in protective suits. Their suits consist of a light-blue jumper and armoured vest.

Unified Forces Crew Uniforms The uniforms of the ship's crew. The red uniforms (left) are the bridge crew uniforms. The light brown uniforms (center) are those of the sensor operator crew working below the bridge. The uniforms are the same, however the colour denotes the difference in position.

Unified Forces Officer's Uniforms On the left is the uniform of an officer in the UNAF. In the center is the uniform of an officer in the UNS. On the right is the standard Unified Space Forces warship captain's uniform. It is also the same uniform worn by the Unified Naval Forces's Captains.

Unified Forces Admiral and General Uniforms The two images on the left are the Unified Space Forces Admiral's uniform. Their uniform is similar to the Warship Captain's uniform in the UNS. The two images on the right are the Unified Air Forces General's uniform. Their uniform is similar to the Warship Captain's uniform in the UNS and UNN—although much more simple, like that of the lower ranked personnel of the UNAF, UNSM, and Variable Fighter Pilots.

M7 Era (2045)

Unified Forces Uniforms
UNS Pilot Uniform and Jumpsuit On the left is the standard male Emigrant Fleet uniform being worn by a VF-17 pilot. The rank badge is on the right breast and the squadron patch is on the left. On the right is the standard Unified Forces Emigrant Fleet jumpsuit. It is also worn by pilots when not required to be in full uniform. This is normally when they are waiting for—but not actively on—combat alert, when they will be required to be waiting in their flight suits.

UNS Military Police Uniform The Unified Forces Emigrant Fleet Military Police uniform. It is composed of a duty uniform, kevlar jacket, and helmet.

Unified Forces Crew Uniform All three images are of the standard Emigrant Fleet crew uniform circa 2045. Bridge personnel in Emigrant Fleets wear white uniforms. Regular ship crew wear a very light tan/cream coloured version of the same uniform.

Unified Forces Officer Uniforms On the left are the Emigrant Fleet officer's uniforms. Officers wear a light blue uniform. The officers in the upper pair of images are higher ranking, as indicated by the number of stripes over their right breast pocket, and the rid stripe over their left. The two sets of images on the right are the Emigrant Fleet medical personnel uniform. It is similar to the officer's uniform, and is in a light brown/tawny colour. When they are on duty, medical personnel wear a doctor's smock instead of their uniform jacket (far right image).

Unified Forces Commander Uniforms The two images on the left are the Emigrant Fleet Commander's uniform. It is a slightly more ornate versions of the standard Unified Forces crew uniform, and includes a privateer-style overcoat/cloak. Their uniform, like that of the rest of the bridge crew, is white. Their rank badges are mainly purple, which denote them as the commander of an Emigrant Fleet. Regular emigrant fleet captains wear similar—but less ornate—uniforms, and stick more closely to the standard Unified Forces uniforms. In the middle is the uniform of the Zentrādi Emigrant Fleet Commanders. The primary difference is that the uniform is a dark red, and the privateer-style overcoat/cloak is dark green. On the right is the uniform of the Vice-Commander, the Emigrant Fleet's second-in-command. It is light blue, and lacks the privateer-style overcoat/cloak.

City Police Uniforms
Regular and RATS Uniforms The trio of images on the left are the uniforms of the City police in an Emigrant Fleet. When on duty without a jacket—when the interior of the emigrant ships are set to warmer temperatures, such as summertime—they wear a light blue shirt (left image). They wear a white shirt and navy blue jacket when on duty during cooler temperatures (left image bottom, pictured without the uniform's jacket). The image on the right is the dark blue RATS (Riot And Tactics Squad) uniform. The squad member is pictured without body armour or helmet.

Author's note: as Macross is created in Japan, the production team generally bases their depiction of everyday life on the Japanese norm. It is unclear how closely the City 7 police force emulates the National Police Agency of Japan. For further details on the ERT (Emergency Response Teams) and SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) equivalents (E.g. Riot Police, SAT [Special Assault Team], SIT (Special Investigation Team], MAAT (Martial Arts Attack Team], Special K9, SST [Special Security Team], SGU [Special GUard team], Anti Terrorism Unit, ART [Assault and Rescue Team], and the Ninja Motorcycle Unit [!]), please refer to the Brief Overview of Japanese Police.

Meltran Uniforms
Unlike the Zentrādi uniforms, the colouring of the Meltran uniforms are dependent on the individual fleet, and not the rank per se. Meltran Officer and Crew Uniforms On the left is the uniform of the general Meltran soldiers. It is similar to those of the commanding officer and her adviser, but without a cape. In the middle is the uniform of the Meltran advisers. In addition to the helmet, her rank is indicated by the two central downward points and additional marking on the carapice. On the right is the uniform of the Meltran commanding officers. The horned carapice denotes that she is the sfleet's commanding officer.

Varōta Uniforms
Varōta Officer and Crew Uniforms On the left are the uniforms of the Varōta soldiers. Officer uniforms are white, and soldiers are blue. The helmet of the officers is also taller and more ornate than the one for soldiers. Otherwise the uniforms are identical. On the right is the uniform of the Varōta infiltrator. They are also known as Vampires among the City 7 civilian population. There face mask is a concealed Spiritia collector.

Varōta Commander Uniform The uniform of the Varōta commander. On the right is the uniform without the helmet, shoulder guards, and cape.

Left of center is an engineer in their regular work uniform when working within a pressurised hanger bay or groundside hanger. The two sets of images on the right are the new officer uniforms for Unified Space Forces personnel (circa 2050). Unlike the earlier uniforms, they are coloured light blue for all personnel, and only the colour on the collar differs—bridge officers have the traditional bright red, as seen in the image on the far right.

UNS Command Uniforms On the left is the uniform of a senior bridge officer. In the center is the uniform of the commanding officer of the special forces units—with a rank of Colonel. On the right is the standard Unified Space Forces warship captain's uniform. It is also the same uniform worn by the Unified Naval Forces's Captains.

The cloak conceals their weak form (weaker than the average Zentr?di), as their genetics have concentrated everything on enhancing their cranium/brain. On the right is the Zentrādi commander's uniform. It is similar to the soldier uniform. It is modified by an overcoat, and lacks the back-of-the-head armour.
