The YF-24 Family |

YF-24 Evolution |
---|
The fundamental design of the YF-24 Evolution was sent to each fleet by the New Unified Forces. In the Macross Frontier Fleet, the within-fleet Shinsei Industry Arsenal and the L.A.I. Co. revised it, and took care of its completion as the VF-25.
In 2057, the YF-24 gained the next version main fighter seat because of its overwhelming performance. That design is transmitted to each fleet's Shinsei Industry branch. As a result of original improvements and specification changes in the Frontier Fleet, the VF-25 was born.
There is an anecdote that in the Planet Eden test combat in 2057, Isamu Dyson ("Macross Plus"), who had retired from active duty, handed down a wonderful score for the fighter.
From the Compendium:
After canceling the development of the YF-24, Shinsei Industry continued the original development, focusing on ISC. Thus, the YF-24 Evolution, which contained ISC in the airframe, was completed (the prototype was called "Camel" because it had a large dorsal bulge for ISC storage).
The combination of the manned aircraft, VF-171, and the unmanned aircraft, QF-4000 series, properly established the system of duty, but the problem of the successor unit of the VF-171 surfaced in 2055. Initially, conversion to unmanned aircraft for the next main fighter was recommended, but at the end of 2057, Shinsei Industry submitted and demonstrated the YF-24 Evolution.
In simulated air combat where 3 prototypes participated, the YF-24 Evolution defeated 12 VF-19s and VF-22s and 6 air-to-air specification QF-4000s. Then, in a simulated attack was devised by the space mobile fleet, designating a large-sized space aircraft carrier as the central target, a single fighter Space Folded in and made a direct hit to the bridge of the aircraft carrier with a simulated reaction warhead. As a result, the plan for deployment and adoption of the YF-24 Evolution was approved.
Major Isamu Dyson of the Reserve service acted as the test pilot leader for the demonstration carried out at the New Edwards Aerospace Space Test Center.
The YF-24 design was provided to each Emigrant Fleet. Based on that, the Macross Frontier fleet modified, considering deployment in atmosphere and from an aircraft carrier important, improved ISC and more, producing and deploying as the VF-25. The VF-27 had the performance almost equivalent to a VF-25 equipped with Super Parts. Due to this, only the Beta-type and Gamma-type are known, and any options other than the Super Fold Booster and other variants is unknown.
As of 2059, the VF-25 and VF-27 are the strongest VFs, direct decedents of the YF-24 Evolution, which succeeded the YF-24, that Shinsei Industries completed; receiving ISC and Stage II thermonuclear turbine engines. However, it is considered that influence from the VF-19 went to the VF-25, and the VF-22 (YF-21) to the VF-27, and has become a compilation airframe VF development technology, respectively. The VF-25 and VF-27 are considered sister units with the basic design inherited from the YF-24, but performance tendencies differ. The VF-25 fuselage, which considers maneuverability/aerodynamic both in concept and performance tendencies, can be called the successor of the VF19, the VF-27, which corresponds with a cyborg, puts consideration on firepower/output.
The YF-24 is a high-performance Variable Fighter which introduced various new technology. Its design data was sent to each fleet by Shinsei Industries.
Vehicle Type: Experimental Variable Fighter
Class: Variable Vehicles
Crew: Pilot only
Manufacturer: Shinsei Industry
Government: Unified Government
Variants
Design Features: Delta-wing design. ISC (Inertia Store Converter). Gravity/Inertia control system that was existed in the Protoculture age. The ISC prototype of the YF-24 was a large-sized model and the system's gross weight reached as high as 18t that it could not be accommodated in the fuselage. It apparently stored up to 2G of acceleration for a 5-second interval as the limit. After the YF-24 plan was discontinued, a miniaturized and improved ISC progressed from Shinsei Industry's research and that model also withstood high G environment, which could catch and shoot down a QF-4000 air-intercepting variant which was developed into the YF-24 Evolution. Furthermore, the VF-25's ISC/TO21 improved performance where it is assumed that acceleration of the cockpit at maximum can maintain 27.5G reduction for 120 seconds. Additionally, it is considered that the VF-27's ISC, the IVC/GC 01-gamma, has the same performance class. Stage II Thermonuclear engines. Linear actuators.

In 2040, Shinsei Industries and General Galaxy Corporation began research on the next generation VF through the YF-24 project. During this period, various problems surrounding the main fighter were erupted. The first problem was the adoption of the VF-19 as well as the VF-22. The VF-19 and the VF-22 were difficult to operate and neither were fit for extensive deployment at high costs. During the "Sharon Apple Insident*", it is said that super high performance was proven because the YF-19 broke through the Earth Defensive Sphere independently, therefore the senior military officials were reluctant to deploy to the Emigrant Fleets. The second problem is unmanned aircraft. The experimental unmanned aircraft Ghost X-9's combat efficiency exceeded that of the YF-19 and YF-21. But since the military authorities had borne a distrust to AI, the main fighter did not become an unmanned aircraft.
Three YF-24s were manufactured as an actual proof test demonstration. One crashed due to a malfunction of the linear actuator during transformation. Although ISC was packaged with one of the remaining two, ISC ran recklessly during the experiment and the pilot was seriously injured. Afterward, development of the YF-24 was halted. The VF-171, developed as an alternative unit of the manned main VF, had been successful beyond anticipation and this also became a factor which obstructed the conversion to the YF-24.

Design Features: Delta-wing design. In the YF-24 plan, further improvement to fuselage performance and research on new aircraft control were performed. The angle of the G-proof seat has a function of being optimized automatically to G's. Linear Actuators. It is said that transformation speed is shortened 2/3rds or less than that of older VF models. Stage II Thermonuclear engine which possess output greater than the FF-2500/2550 series of the VF-19. It is considered that the engine that became the VF-25's FF-3001A are the same as the prototype that was installed in the YF-24.
