VF-19E Kai Excalibur "Nekki Basara Custom" Fire Valkyrie |
BACKGROUND
The VF-19 Excalibur was based on the VF-11 Thunderbolt, and developed by Shinsei Industry from the end of October, 2037, for Project Supernova. Project Supernova was completed in 2040, with the VF-19 Excalibur being declared the project winner. In 2041, it is decided that the airframe will be deployed as the next generation main Variable Fighter of the Unified Forces.
Due to cost and performance issues (in the sense that the Unified Government didn't want it's affiliated Emigrant Planets and fleets to have an equal military capability), the VF-19 was not widly deployed. Instead, the VF-171 Nightmare Plus, which first flew in 2046, was adopted and widly deployed as the main multipurpose heavy Variable Fighter of the Unified Forces in the 2050s.
The engines in the E type replaced the ones used in the YF-19 prototype with ones that have stable output. In addition, the airframe was simplified. Because of these changes, the VF-19E type achieves a comprehensive performance that allows average pilots to control them.
The VF-19E is a mass produced fighter that was produced at a low-rate during the initial production period of the VF-19. Design changes were performed based on operational data obtained from on the airframe up until the D type. It is equipped with a thruster ring, and with having an improvement in manueverability in mind, the FF-2500F are employed as the engines. Therefore, there is a great design change from the accompanying engine nacelle to the nozzle. The VF-19E is constructed as a type that is specialized in operations in outer space by having exchanged each component for one that improves performance in outer space. In addition to the modification of the wing shape, the high-speed flight mode that's used in the atmosphere has been omitted. One of the hardpoints has been removed on the main wing and glove, and has changed to two underwing hardpoints on each side. The wing shape has also been developed, and has had a little bit of an increase in atmospheric manueverability.
The VF-19 Kai is a remodeled unit adopted for preliminary testing preceding the adoption of the VF-19 by the Macross 7 Fleet. It places emphasis on maneuverability and stability, and the modified fuselage of the VF-19 Kai balances the high performance inherited from the original unit, the YF-19. Furthermore, the principal objective of this aircraft is "singing", which is characterized more than its outstanding performance. This unit was entrusted to Basara Nekki, of the rock group "Fire Bomber", through Ray Lovelock. It was setup for verifying the application of the VF-19, and aimed at researching Song Energy for the top-secret military program "Project M". It appeared on the battlefield as a civilian aircraft basking in the media limelight, while behind-the-scenes it received thorough maintenance and data collection by the military.

NOTES:
- (1) destroying the head of the fighter will knock out the Valkyrie's major sensor systems, including all of the optics systems (infrared, nightvision, thermal). Radar and communications will be unaffected.
- (2) depleting the MDC of the main body will destroy the Valkyrie. The pilot and cockpit section/escape pod will be automatically ejected from the doomed Valkyrie before it explodes by the Valkyrie's main computer.
- (3) the Pinpoint Barrier shield regenerates at a rate of 50 MDC per round. Even if completely destroyed the shield will regenerate to full strength within 2 melee rounds. The shield is usually generated on the right or left arm of the VF-19.
- (4) 150 MDC only in Battroid and/or when the blast shield is lowered over the cockpit. Otherwise, 50 MDC for the canopy and 100 MDC for the remainder of the cockpit. Requires a called shot to hit the canopy.
- (5) optional equipment. If the Speaker Pod Gamma reaches, it will explode doing 1D6x100 MD. If the computer is functioning it will automatically eject the damaged part before exploding. If it is not, the pilot has one melee action to eject the pod before it explodes.

OFFENSIVE SYSTEMS
1. HIGH-PERFORMANCE AUDIO SYSTEM: (1)
Is installed in the airframe in the shoulders/dorsal nacelles. It is used in conjunction with the Light Projector System and Speaker System. During the Varohta War, the VF-19E Kai was primarily used in attempts to get the Varohta to stop fighting. The system prooved capable of distracting and, especially with the light projector system, temporarily dazzling the enemy.
High-Performance Speaker System
Built into the shoulders of the VF-19 Kai. They emit up to 300 decibels of sound. They are normally used to project music during combat, but can be set to play any recording the pilot has loaded into the craft's computer, or whatever music the pilot produces while piloting the craft.
- RANGE: 500 m in atmosphere. Touch in the void of space.
- DAMAGE: temporary deafness
- SPECIAL: the loud music is very distracting; pilots forced to listen to it in combat suffer -2 to initiative and combat rolls. In addition, the music may cause a Spiritia reaction in the minds of brainwashed Varohta pilots.
- RATE OF FIRE: active as long as the pilot is playing or producing music
- PAYLOAD: effectively unlimited.
Sound Energy System
A system built into the VF-19 Kai that amplifies one's spiritia for attack and defence uses. The VF-19E Kai was one of the first VFs to have the system installed. System contains a sound energy converter and a sound aura amplification system.
- RANGE: variable
- DAMAGE: see the Spiritia RPG rules
- RATE OF FIRE: equal to the pilot's combined number of attacks
- PAYLOAD: effectively unlimited
Light Projector System
Built into the shoulders of the VF-19 Kai, next to the Speaker System. They emit a bright light projection, that can be used for rock shows, signaling, and blinding attacks. They are capable of projecting whatever image the pilot wants, if it is in the vehicles computer. They are not powerful enough to "cloak" the VF-19E Kai to hide it from view.
- RANGE: 1,200 m
- DAMAGE: temporary blindness: on a successful strike, the opponent rolls to save vs blindness. If they fail, they are blinded for 1 round, and are -3 on initiative and combat rolls while blinded.
- RATE OF FIRE: equal to the pilot's combined number of attacks. Single shots only to attempt to blind an opponent (requires a weapons system check.)
- PAYLOAD: effectively unlimited
2. SEMI-FIXED MAULER REB-23 LASER GUNS: (2)
Two laser guns are mounted in the wing-roots of the VF-19. They are fixed forward in Fighter and GERWALK. They are semi-fixed in Battroid; the beams can be aimed about 45° in any direction along the front arc of the Valkyrie as they exit from the the hip-mounted wing units. Fires a free-electron laser with a maximum output of 1.5 MW at 6+ G loads.
- RANGE: 5,600 m
- DAMAGE: 1D6x10+10 MD
- RATE OF FIRE: single shots only. The laser guns can be fire-linked (does double damage).
- PAYLOAD: effectively unlimited
3. SPEAKER LAUNCHER GUN POD: (1)
The main musical warfare weapon of the VF-19E Kai. The gun pod is mounted on a special hardpoint below the AVF in Fighter, and is hand-held in GERWALK and Battroid. The launcher pod has a sensor, foregrip, and stock magazine. The gun pod is used to fire Speaker Pods into opponent's vehicles in order to broadcast the VF-19E Kai's pilot's music. After penetrating the target's armor, the Speaker Pods are fixed with a stopper and filler.
The shells are armor piercing and can usually penetrate even the toughest armor. In addition to their use as a distraction, the speaker pods have been known to occasionally free Varōta pilots from their brainwashing, permitting them to defect back to the Unified Forces.
Two spare clips for the gun pod are mounted on the back of the VF-19's bulletproof shield; replacing a clip takes one action and can only be done in GERWALK or Battroid.
NOTE: this not a Sound Energy System (SES), this is just a normal speaker unit.
- RANGE: 1,800 m
- DAMAGE: a speaker pod does 1D10 MD on impact from armor penetration. The Gun Pod can be used for sprays. Refer to the Gun Pods and Beam Machine Gun Burst and Spray Rules for alternatives.
- SPECIAL EFFECTS: the loud music played by the Speaker Pods is very distracting—pilots forced to listen to it in combat suffer -2 to initiative and -1 to strike and dodge. In addition, the music may cause a Spiritia reaction in the minds of brainwashed Varōta pilots. The only way to remove a speaker pod is to physically cut it out of the vehicle back at base.
- ACTIVATION COST (amount of Spiritia required to activate the unit): none, as this is merely a speaker and does not require Spiritia to activate.
- RATE OF FIRE: equal to the pilot's combined number of attacks. The gun pod isn't limited to bursts of 10, or 20 rounds. Any variation can be fired (it is recommended to stick to multiples of 10 for ease of damage resolution).
- PAYLOAD: 20 rounds. Additional ammo clips can be inserted, but exchanging clips requires the VF-19 to be in Battroid or GERWALK, and takes 2 actions to reload. Two (2) spare clips are stored behind the shield.
4. Internal Armament Loading Bays (2)
Each engine nacelle of the VF-19 contains an internal armament loading bay, which can be customized for different mission objectives and carry a variety of different payloads. Any type of internal pallet may be used. The leg pallets can be used in all modes.
- NUMBER OF PALLETS: 2, 1 per engine nacelle.
- LOADOUT: B-7 Pallet with 6 Little Rock High-Manueverability missiles; though any type of Pallet System can be used.
5. Wing Hard Points (6)
The VF-19E Kai has 2 hardpoints per wing, for a total of 4. Normally it doesn't carry any munitions on the hardpoints. Some standard hardpoint loads are as follows. For alternatives, refer to the Hardpoint and Missile Details.
Note: due to the location of the hard points, ALL missiles must be fired or ejected before the VF-19 can convert to Battroid. For this reason the hard point missiles are usually fired within the first few passes of an attack; which is the standard Unified Forces tactic.
Suggested Hardpoint Loads (per wing. Double for total load)

6. SPEAKER POD GAMMA LAUNCHER: (1)
An option sound warfare weapon of the VF-19E Kai. The gun pod is usually carried into battle under the VF-17T Kai, mounted in two parts on the wing hardpoints. The Speaker Pod Gamma Launcher must be hand loaded in the field immediately before use (requires 2 actions by both the VF-19E Kai and VF-17T Kai). The Speaker Pod Gamma is designed to penetrate enemy capital ships in order to broadcast the VF-19E Kai's pilot's music. After penetrating the target's armor, the Speaker Pod is fixed with a stopper and filler.
The Speaker Pod Unit designed by Dr. Chiba before Spiritia technology was introduced. It was designed for anti-warship effectiveness. The only way to get rid of the Speaker Pod is to physically remove it.
NOTE: this not a Sound Energy System (SES), this is just a normal speaker unit.
MDC VALUE
Speaker Launcher: 250
Speaker Pod: 150
- RANGE: 3,000 m
- DAMAGE: does 1D10x100 M.D. on impact from armor penetration. Once embedded in a target's armor, the pod will extract anchors that adhere it to the ship's hull. The only way to remove it is to physically cut it out of the ship back at base.
- SPECIAL EFFECTS: the loud music played by the Speaker Pod is very distracting; crew forced to listen to it in combat suffer a -3 to initiative and a -2 to strike.
- RATE OF FIRE: 1 per round.
- PAYLOAD: 1 Speaker Pod Gamma with no reload. Additional Speaker Pod Gamma can be carried by other craft, but loading still requires 2 actions by both the VF-19E Kai and the carrying craft.
7. HAND TO HAND COMBAT
If necessary, the VF-19 can engage in melee combat rather than use a weapon. The VF-19 is extremely agile, and can execute most typical hand to hand combat moves; such as punches, jump kicks, leap attacks, rolling with impacts, etc..
